Competitive Shooters Get State-of-the-Art Facility

By Glen Wunderlich

Preparing American athletes to win Olympic medals is no small challenge.  USA Shooting, a 501c3 non-profit corporation, was chartered by the United States Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body for the sport of shooting in April 1995 and gets no governmental financial help, as do competing foreign shooters.  And, plenty of practice is required.  However, practice itself doesn’t make perfect; only perfect practice does.

Firearms and technique are most important but until now, our athletes had been at a bit of a disadvantage in the technological aspect of matching ammunition to specific firearms.  Not anymore.

Lapua, maker of some of the most accurate ammunition in the world, has opened new Rimfire Service Center in Mesa, Arizona.  Patterned after the world-renowned Lapua Service Center in Schönebeck, Germany, this facility Read more

Nightime is the Right Time for Coyotes

By Glen Wunderlich

Friday’s snowfall is sure to have the returning migratory birds second-guessing their programmer’s sanity for compelling them to return to their spring nesting grounds.  If I could understand the calls of the sandhill cranes, I’m sure they’d be translated to HELP!  For predators, however, it’ll be just another day of winter; for me, it means one more chance at a coyote after dark before nighttime hunting concludes March 1st. More Gun Laws, More Crime

By Glen Wunderlich

In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court justices ruled that Americans have a right to possess arms in the home for self defense – a ruling that prevents government from enacting overly restrictive gun-control regulations. In 2010, the court announced that Second Amendment rights apply not only in federal jurisdictions but throughout the country in state and local jurisdictions as well.

It seems that it would be a simple edict to follow except the language “overly restrictive gun-control regulations”.  Tis the fly in the ointment and politicians such as Governor Brown of California will test the law’s intent with their version of “reasonable” laws, as if just one more law will do the trick.

But, the rush is on in California – the rush to mass exodus, that is. Last week, gun legislation signed into law by Governor Brown signals the floodgates to open even wider, as sportsmen’s voices were ignored.

Liberalism was on display, as California bucked the national trend to loosen gun ownership restrictions by requiring the preservation of records for long guns sold or transferred after January 1, 2014 with the passage of AB 809. The measure was cheered by Dallas Stout, President of the California Brady Campaign Chapters who said, “The Governor has shown common sense and real courage…”

But, it is this type of “intellect” that has created a budget deficit as much as $28 billion this year Read more

Box Blind Hunting Tips for Better Accuracy

By Glen Wunderlich

Any Michigander knows all too well that fair-weather activities are limited, and with firearms deer season on hand in five weeks, there’s no better time to sight in the big guns than now.

Most shooters know that a steady rest is a good place to start to minimize human error. Benchrest sand bags under the forearm and butt stock can minimize movement and are a must for determining the accuracy potential of any round.  But, repeating this accuracy afield can be problematic.

Obviously, pin-point accuracy is not as important at closer ranges, but when stretching the limits of a firearm across a field or through the woods, every bit of precision is required to minimize the risk of bad shots.

Here’s a tip for those that shoot from any type of box blind Read more
