DNR Shooting Ranges Open July 4th

The DNR shooting ranges at Ortonville, Pontiac Lake, Rose Lake and Sharonville are open on Independence Day, July 4, so come out and shoot before your family barbeque! The weather forecast is nice and sunny, too.

The modern restrooms at the Ortonville and Pontiac Lake ranges are now completed and open for shooters. We expect the work to be completed soon at the Sharonville range. Let your friends know that the restrooms are family friendly for women and children.

If you have a child under 10, the Demonstration Days for Mentored Youth are scheduled from 4-8 p.m. on July 29 at Pontiac Lake, July 30 at Ortonville, August 5 at Sharonville, and August 6 at Rose Lake. This is a drop-in event, so come when it’s convenient for you. New gifts for the kids who attend this year are camo hats and backpacks to use for archery deer, waterfowl and turkey hunting.

If you enjoy shooting trap, the automatic clay throwers are available on Sundays through August. Range staff will load the throwers for your pulling.

The 2014 hunting and fishing licenses are available online 24-hours a day, or make a campground reservation at Michigan’s 102 state park and recreation areas at www.midnrreservations.com/. Campground reservations can be made up to six months in advance.

Visit the DNR shooting range webpage (www.michigan.gov/shootingranges) for additional information on everything related to the shooting sports.
