Last night, President Barack Obama continued his campaign to build grassroots support for Executive Actions he says were designed to curb gun violence in America, not infringe on the Second Amendment right of gun owners. During the two-hour CNN Town Hall meeting, the President used humor (“I’ve been good for gun manufacturers”) and occasionally errant facts (criminals “buy” guns) and his oratorical abilities in an effort to minimize the impact his executive actions would have on law-abiding gun owners. Although Mr. Obama fielded both pointed and rambling questions from pro-gun audience members, the National Rifle Association, which Mr. Obama criticized for not attending despite being “headquartered right down the street” apparently refused to take part in the Town Hall meeting. “The National Rifle Association,” Mr. Obama said, “used to favor background checks. Now, they aren’t willing to even consider face-to-face conversation on the issue.”
