Garmin Introduces Foretrex 701 integration with SIG SAUER Ballistic Data Xchange Platform
Las Vegas, NV / January 22, 2019 — Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced new integrated communication capabilities between its Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition wrist-mounted GPS navigator and SIG SAUER’s Ballistic Data Xchange (BDX) Laser Rangefinders, including the KILO 2400BDX and KILO . This integration allows for increased ballistic information from the Applied Ballistic Elite® solver, native in the Foretrex 701, totransfer to BDX rangefinders. Additionally, range information will now transfer from BDX rangefinders to the Foretrex 701.
“In competitive long range and extreme long range shooting, technical advancements like the Foretrex 701-BDX communication integration has a compounding advantage for shooting enthusiasts,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “As competitive long range and extreme long range shooting become increasingly popular throughout the United States, we are proud to work with companies like SIG SAUER to deliver shooting enthusiasts one of the most precise and accurate ballistic solutions.”
SIG SAUER’s BDX technology enables interoperability and key ballistic data information to be exchanged wirelessly between SIG SAUER BDX Electro-Optics products. Through the Foretrex 701-BDX incorporation, compatible KILO BDX rangefinders will communicate with the Foretrex 701 to instantly send user’s DOPE to the scope via Bluetooth using Applied Ballistics Elite solver. By means of a user’s basic ballistic profile, the ballistic solution is calculated for the user’s target and will instantly illuminate on the BDX reticle with windage and elevation holds in compatible BDX riflescopes.
Foretrex 701
The Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition is Garmin’s wrist-mounted GPS navigator for outdoor and tactical use. In addition to its high-sensitivity GPS, the Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition adds Applied Ballistics Elite. The Elite solver includes the entire Applied Ballistics bullet library and allows users to enter a variety of parameters including wind, temperature, humidity, range, and firing direction. It provides the information needed to fire projectiles through extreme long range including elevation data, windage, velocity and time of flight. The Applied BallisticsEngine calculates variables such as Horizontal Coriolis Effect, Vertical Coriolis Effect, Spin Drift, Aerodynamic Jump, and more.
Applied Ballistics Elite also includes the most extensive database of custom drag models for hundreds of bullet types, which are live fire verified in the AB Lab. When strapped to the wrist, the shooter never has to take their eyes off the downrange target to check their paper DOPE charts, and with the dynamic Range Card feature, the shooter can make quick adjustments based on environmental conditions to dial in the shooting solutions to actual impact points downrange.
For decades, Garmin has pioneered new GPS navigation and wireless devices and applications that are designed for people who live an active lifestyle.
