Whitetails Unlimited’s Clearfield County Chapter in Pennsylavaia will help the Camp Mountain Run Boy Scout Camp recover from a recent theft, said WTU Pennsylvania Field Director Clyde DeHart.
Officials say that a compound bow, two shotguns, and four .22-caliber rifles were stolen from the Camp Mountain Run Boy Scout Camp in Penfield sometime between January 18 and February 8. They are used during summer camp events, which start in June, for the Bucktail Council of Boy Scouts of America. A storage area was damaged to gain access to the secured firearms, and the loss and damage is estimated to exceed $2,500.
“Our local Clearfield County chapter banquet next month will include raising WTU grant funds to help replace the bow and firearms that were stolen, as well as increasing the storage security at the Boy Scout camp,” said DeHart. “The Boy Scouts do a great job teaching firearm safety and skills every year, and we want to make sure they can continue their programs without interruption.”
DeHart encouraged anyone with any information about this theft to call State Police in DuBois. “We obviously want to get these firearms back to the Boy Scouts, but we also don’t want guns in the hands of criminals in our community. Somebody likely knows something, so we’re hoping people do the right thing. Whitetails Unlimited has a long history of supporting responsible, safe youth shooting and firearm safety programs, and we’re proud to continue that tradition in Clearfield County,” said DeHart.
DeHart said the chapter banquet will be at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds March 21, and complete information can be found on the WTU website, www.whitetailsunlimited.com.
