As COVID cases in Michigan continue to trend upward, state agencies – including the Department of Natural Resources – are delaying plans to re-open public buildings and facilities to pre-pandemic hours and levels.
Until further notice, the Michigan History Museum and the Archives of Michigan in Lansing will continue to operate on a limited and/or by appointment schedule, detailed below.
Michigan History Museum
Beginning Sept. 7, the Michigan History Museum will be open to the public for weekend hours (Fridays/Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m.). The museum will open Monday-Thursday for scheduled school field trips and group tours (10 person minimum). Visit our website for information on scheduling a school or group visit. Please note that the museum will be closed Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-6, 2021.
Archives of Michigan
The Archives of Michigan will continue to be open by appointment Monday-Friday (1 to 5 p.m.) and, starting Sept. 7, by appointment on Saturdays (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Appointments can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance via the research appointment request online form. Staff will continue to provide remote reference services by phone at 517-335-2576 and email at Archives@Michigan.gov.
Mask Mandate for All Lansing Visitors
The State of Michigan has adopted a mask mandate for state office buildings. This includes the Michigan Library and Historical Center building, which is home to the Michigan History Museum and Archives of Michigan.
Per the policy, a face mask is defined as an N95/KN95/KN94 respirator or other multi-layered breathable fabric that completely covers the nose and mouth, fitting snugly against the sides of the face. View the full face mask policy [PDF] for more information.
