Holiday Fun at Irish Hills

Walker Tavern Historic Site in Irish Hills participating in ‘History Palooza’ May 26-27

The Walker Tavern Historic Site, located at Cambridge Junction State Park in Lenawee County, will participate in the Third Annual History Palooza in the Irish Hills region of Michigan on May 26-27. Among the special events planned for Walker’s opening weekend are craft demonstrations and old-time children’s games.

The historic 19th-century stagecoach stop will open for the season on May 24, with free daily tours Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fifty-plus sites in Brooklyn, Onsted and the US-12 corridor will celebrate the region’s heritage during History Palooza. More information can be found on the Oh These Irish Hills! website at www.otih.org.

A complete list of Walker Tavern summer events is attached. The site offers a farmers market most Sundays starting on May 27, as well as vintage base ball games featuring the Walker Wheels. Other special events planned for the summer include a Grandparent/Grandchild History Camp in June; programs on Michigan’s First People, the Underground Railroad and Wilderness Survival in July; Pack Your Wagon in August; and Stagecoach Days in September.

Walker Tavern is one of 11 nationally accredited museums administered by the Michigan Historical Center, an agency within the Department of Natural Resources. It is located at the junction of US-12 and M-30, east of Jackson. For more information, call 517-467-4401 or visit www.michigan.gov/walkertavern.
