DNR makes effort to utilize at-risk resources with ash and beech salvage

GW:  Getting some value from these dying trees makes nothing but sense.  For me, as many others, I’ve used plenty of ash wood to heat my home and hot water.  If you plan to harvest ash trees, be careful, however.  They are mighty dangerous if they’ve been dead for a number of years and can snap off anywhere along the trunk.

Michigan state forest land is currently battling two invasive forest pests that have the potential to significantly change the forest composition and further reduce the diversity of tree species that have historically made up the state forest system. Read more

WEST POINT, Miss. – Mossy Oak is auctioning trees, seed, camouflage and more to benefit a friend in need. Long-time outdoor writer and friend Bob Humphrey recently suffered a severe injury to his right eye. He has had two eye surgeries and is facing more in the future. This accident has not only left him with vision impairment, but with the burden of numerous bills. We are asking our friends to rally around Bob during this difficult time. NSSF Dumps Reed, SHOT Management Still Undecided

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Reed Exhibitions to terminate the agreement the parties had for the management of the SHOT Show®. Accordingly, effective immediately, Reed Exhibitions will no longer be manager and producer of the SHOT Show. Read more

1948 Olympian Walter Walsh To Celebrate 106th

NOTE: This story was previously released on March 20, 2013, upon confirmation that Walter Walsh had become the world’s oldest Olympian. We reuse the story here in honor of Walsh’s 106th Birthday with new updates and a quote from his family.
Having already set Olympic precedence, Walter Walsh keeps going. On Saturday, May 4, the 1948 Olympic shooter will celebrate his 106th birthday.
Earlier this year, January 18 to be exact, Walsh eclipse another American Olympian, Rudolf Schrader, as the oldest Olympian in history.
