DoubleStar Unveiling New ARC 300 Rifle at NRA Annual Meeting and Events

The lightweight and rugged rifle in .300 BLK was designed to hunt everything and go anywhere.

Winchester, Ky. – DoubleStar Corp, manufacturers of high-quality, US-made AR components, rifles and pistols, will be unveiling its new ARC 300 rifle (https://star15.com/arc300-always-ready-carbine-300-blackout.html) at the 2017 NRA Annual Meeting and Events, to be held in Atlanta Georgia April 27 – 30, 2017. DoubleStar will be at Booth #1110.

“Our ARC (Always Ready Carbine) rifle was so popular in 5.56 we wanted to design a .300 Blackout version with some updated features. This rifle has been designed to hunt everything and to be tough and lightweight enough to go anywhere you go,” said Nick Collier, director of special operations for DoubleStar.

In addition to being lightweight and rugged, the ARC 300 is as reliable as death and taxes, and is ready to eat any supersonic or subsonic load thrown its way. In testing the rifle, DoubleStar fed it every commercially available bullet on the market and they all ran flawlessly. The upper and lower receiver are standard DoubleStar forged 7075 T6 components with MP batch tested bolts. The fire control group are also standard forged internals. The ARC 300 was designed with a pistol length gas system, keeping the hottest part of the barrel away from the shooter’s hands so that it can be fired rapidly and accurately without becoming uncomfortable to shoot. ATF Clarifies Ruling on Pistol Stabilizing Braces

Newington, N.H. – SIG SAUER, Inc. announced news of a welcomed clarification from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) on pistol stabilizing braces (PSB). The ATF’s refined position is that placing a PSB against the shoulder does not, in and of itself, necessarily alter the classification from pistol to short-barreled rifle (SBR).In a letter dated March 21, 2017, ATF reexamines its earlier position, which stated that shouldering a PSB-equipped firearm could constitute the making of an unregistered short-barreled rifle under the National Firearms Act (NFA). ATF now states:

“With respect to stabilizing braces, ATF has concluded that attaching the brace to a handgun as a forearm brace does not ‘make’ a short-barreled firearm because … it is not intended to be and cannot comfortably be fired from the shoulder.” The letter continues: “Therefore, an NFA firearm has not necessarily been made when the device is not re-configured for use as a shoulder stock — even if the attached firearm happens to be fired from the shoulder.”

The following passage from the letter acknowledges the confusion surrounding the January 2015 “Open Letter on the Redesign of ‘Stabilizing Braces'”, and clarifies that ATF does not consider shouldering a PSB-equipped firearm, in and of itself, to render it an SBR. Read more

MCRGO’s 2017-2018 Legislative Agenda

Following the passage of concealed pistol reform sponsored by Sen. Mike Green (R-Mayville) and spearheaded by MCRGO in early 2015, the past two years have been relatively quiet. That is about the change with some major changes on the agenda for this legislative session. Note that the legislative process is very unpredictable and it is impossible to provide an accurate prediction on when or if these bills will pass and be signed into law. Similarly, Snyder, like most governors, often does not indicate in advance whether he will sign or veto legislation.
Constitutional Concealed Carry:  This is the big goal for many gun owners. Two constitutional concealed carry packages have been introduced in the House so far and a third is expected. The legislation would eliminate the need to have a license to carry concealed in Michigan while retaining Michigan’s existing CPL for reciprocity and other benefits. A growing number of states are adopting constitutional concealed carry and seeing positive results including a decrease in crime and an increase in people taking non-mandatory training.
Pistol Free Zones:  Legislation is expected to be introduced shortly in the Senate which would repeal many of Michigan’s pistol free zones.
Registration:  Of all the major firearms bills on the horizon, upcoming House legislation to eliminate mandatory pistol registration has the best prospects. Michigan is one of only a handful of states that requires pistol registration. Michigan’s existing system is in disarray.
Young Adult Concealed Carry:  Legislation separate from constitutional concealed carry will be introduced shortly in the House which would allow 18-20 year olds to obtain a provisional concealed pistol license.  Because of the provisional nature of the license, it would not impact reciprocity agreements with other states.
Preemption Enforcement:  While a difficult battle is expected with lobbyists representing local government interests, MCRGO supports a re-introduction of legislation from last session which would strengthen the enforcement of preemption.
Online CPL Renewal:  Concealed pistol reform includes a requirement that the Michigan State Police offer on-line renewal of concealed pistol licenses by 2018.  Technical legislation which would allow this to happen has nearly completed its journey through the legislative process and is expected to be signed into law by Governor Snyder later this spring.
