Bill Offers Free Fishing to Vets
A bill that would provide free fishing and hunting licenses to disabled Michigan veterans made its way through committee Tuesday. Introduced by state Rep. Holly Hughes, R-White River Township, the proposed legislation was sent by the House Natural Resources, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee to the full House for consideration. The committee voted unanimously to approve the bill.
Les Schneider, legislative chairman for the Michigan Department of Disabled American Veterans, and Hughes voiced support for House Bill 5292 at the committee meeting Tuesday as evidenced by the following: “Our veterans go above and beyond for us and providing a way for them to enjoy Pure Michigan activities when they return home is a small token of appreciation. Disabled veterans have given so much for our country and our freedoms, and offering them free licenses to take part in these great pastimes helps us as a state show them how grateful we are for what they have sacrificed.”
The logic is hard to argue with from my perspective. If anyone deserves any kind of break, it’s our brave men and women who have dedicated a portion or all of their lives to our security.
