Whitetails Unlimited Donates $84,875 to High School Shooting Teams
Columbia, MO – The MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. and Scholastic Shooting Trust, a public charity established by MidwayUSA founders Larry and Brenda Potterfield, is pleased to announce that Whitetails Unlimited (WU) has donated $84,875 to the endowment accounts of High School Shooting Teams from across the United States.
Whitetails Unlimited, founded in 1982 and headquartered in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds in support of educational programs, habitat conservation and preservation of the hunting tradition for the direct benefit of the white-tailed deer and other wildlife.
WU is one of several conservation groups who partner with MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. to support high school and college shooting teams through mentorship and assistance in fundraising activities, culminating in teams eventually conducting their own fundraising events. Both conservation group donations and a percentage of team fundraising event proceeds are deposited into permanent team endowment accounts at the MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. Funds raised by shooting teams are matched by the Potterfield family.
These accounts provide a source of perpetual team sustainment funding for the shooting teams’ ammunition expenses, range and competition fees, travel, and operating costs. Additionally, teams are able to apply for annual grants of up to 5% of their account balance. This generous donation from Whitetails Unlimited to High School Shooting teams provides a positive avenue for teams to build a secure financial future.
“Competitive shooting teams provide wonderful opportunities for students to make friends, to develop confidence, and learn discipline and leadership skills. However, most schools provide little or no funding for shooting teams, so it’s up to us to help,” says Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO, MidwayUSA.
