Mosquito Repellent Options Abound for National Mosquito Control Awareness Week
GW: Here in Michigan we’ve had record rains in April and plenty more since. The resulting mosquito population has made it impossible to play outside without some type of protection. The ThermaCELL unit shown in the above photo offers a low-output, battery-powered light to go along with the repellant. The only complaint I have with the ThermaCELL units is I forget to shut them off when not in use and it wastes the butane cylinder. If you use the light in conjunction with the repellant, you’ll run less risk of forgetting to shut it off. Yes, they really work!
In the past 10 years, mosquito borne illnesses have become a growing concern for not only the youngest and oldest members of our society but consumers in general, with cases already noted in six states. This week is National Mosquito Control Awareness Week (June 23-29, 2013) and for July Fourth mosquito repellent is on the shopping list! The options include sprays with DEET but follow safety instructions, citronella candles but the scent can be overpowering or noisy zappers that kill insects indiscriminately.
Now ThermaCELL offers an area repellent option that is over 93 percent effective, provides 15 x 15 ft of coverage in minutes and it is affordable as well as portable. Plus, the repellent used by ThermaCELL mimics the natural repellent found in chrysanthemums. This is a great option for consumers who want a discreet solution for mosquitoes that really works. Plus, it is portable so a family can take it with them for a range of 4th of July outings.
Enjoy the outdoors this summer and stop the spread of mosquito-borne illness by following tips offered by the AMCA to prevent mosquito infestation and control an existing problem.
The American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) reminds the public to practice the three D’s of mosquito prevention Drain, Dress, and Defend: Drain: Empty out water containers at least once per week Dress: Wear long sleeves, long pants, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing Defend: Properly apply an approved repellent.
