Bear hunting clinics offered at Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center Aug. 4 and 18

The Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center in Cadillac is offering bear hunting clinics Aug. 4 and 18. Students will learn the basics of bear hunting, including rules and regulations, registering a bear, gear, stand placement, habitat, management, baiting and hunting with a dog.

The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a short lunch break. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch, a notebook and a pencil and to dress for the weather as a portion of the class will be taught outdoors. Seating is limited and participants must register for the class by emailing the park interpreter Ed Shaw at shawe@michigan.gov (please include “bear clinic” in the subject line) or by calling 231-779-1321. Registration is accepted until Aug. 3 or until the class is full.
