Michigan Waterfowl Legacy at Sportsmen for Youth event in Muskegon Sept. 6

Representatives from the Michigan Waterfowl Legacy and the Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division will be at the Sportsmen for Youth event at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Michigan Waterfowl Legacy’s interactive duck booth will challenge visitors’ waterfowl identification skills and offer an opportunity to become a Michigan Waterfowl Legacy member.

The event is completely free. The first 2,500 youth age 17 and under will receive a free T-shirt, a lunch ticket and a raffle ticket. The entire family is encouraged to attend, but only youth 17 years old and younger may participate in events.

More than 40 other organizations will be present at the event. Activities will include a fish pond, fur and trapping displays, a virtual fishing machine, vintage cars, emergency vehicles, archery trap, a sensory safari trailer, a rock-climbing wall, birds of prey demonstrations, live reptiles, deer hunting information, a Boy Scout Village, a primitive campsite, and a Hawg Trough – an aquarium on wheels that has freshwater fish on display. Fishing guides will hold several seminars and local emergency personnel will present vehicle extrication and burn cell demonstrations.

The event will take place at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds, 6621 Heights Ravenna Road, in Muskegon. Visitors should dress appropriately for the weather, as the event will be held outdoors.

The Sportsmen for Youth event continues the celebration of the Michigan Waterfowl Legacy, a 10-year, cooperative partnership to restore, conserve and celebrate Michigan’s waterfowl, wetlands and waterfowl hunting community.
