Larry and Brenda Potterfield Receive John L. Morris Award
Larry and Brenda Potterfield, owners of MidwayUSA, recently received the John L. Morris award from the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies. The John L. Morris award was presented to the Potterfields in recognition of their exemplary leadership in conservation and their lifetime commitment to fish and wildlife stewardship. The Annual Awards Banquet was held Tuesday September 15, 2015 during the 105th Annual Meeting of the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies at the JW Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson, Arizona. The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies is a professional association that serves as the collective voice of North America’s state, provincial and territorial fish and wildlife agencies.
“Brenda and I are honored to accept the John L. Morris Award from the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies,” said Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA. “We passionately believe in and support AFWA’s vision for healthy fish and wildlife populations and habitats for long-term public benefit.”
Criteria for the John L. Morris Award include non-political contributions that have been essential and far reaching at the national or international fish and wildlife conservation level; a background leading to award consideration through essential work, support, or volunteer efforts to fish and wildlife conservation outside of a governmental agency; outstanding assistance, service or support to the Association, its member states, and/or their mission; diverse and valuable contributions to conservation objectives over a period of at least 20 years; and outstanding leadership in conservation community.
“Since 2008, Larry and Brenda Potterfield have made over $100 million in charitable contributions; a large portion of which has gone to conservation partners, with a special focus on youth engagement,” said Ed Carter, Executive Director of Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and 2015 AFWA Awards Master of Ceremonies. “The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies is proud to award the Potterfields with the John L. Morris Award, celebrating lifetime commitment to fish and wildlife stewardship by citizen conservationists.”
