SIG SAUER Now Shipping Revolutionary SIG MCX in 5.56mm

NEWINGTON, NH — SIG SAUER, Inc., is pleased to announce that the paradigm-breaking SIG MCX™ modular rifle is now shipping in 5.56mm.

Starting with a clean slate, SIG SAUER® engineers have created the next evolution of the modular carbine with the SIG MCX. Ergonomically friendly, the SIG MCX can be set up in any number of configurations or calibers, from 5.56mm to 300BLK to 7.62x39mm. Barrel lengths, handguards, and stocks can be changed in the field in a matter of minutes, no armorer required.

In addition, SIG is taking fans behind the scenes into the development of the cutting-edge SIG MCX modular rifle system with a series of webisodes. These short videos introduce viewers to the experts and engineers behind the SIG MCX, the roles and mission needs that guided its design, and the benefits and advantages of the platform.

“This is not an ‘AR’. This is the new standard in modern rifle systems,” said John Brasseur, Director of Product Management for SIG SAUER, Inc. “We’ve brought the minds behind the SIG MCX to the forefront to talk about the development, from the drawing board to production.”

Unlike every other firearm on the market, the SIG MCX was designed from the start for optimum short-barrel performance with the 300BLK cartridge and a silencer. When paired with a SIG SAUER silencer, the outcome is a firearm with superior suppression capability and enhanced reliability with both supersonic and subsonic loads.

A two-position gas system makes the transition from subsonic to supersonic seamless. In combat situations, the SIG MCX can run supersonic on the silenced setting without damaging the firearm or negatively impacting reliability.

Sharing a modular design with the SIG MPX™, the SIG MCX is a mission-adaptable marvel. Changing between 5.56 NATO and 300BLK is as simple as swapping barrels and operating rods. Conversion to

7.62x39mm simply requires an additional bolt face change. All of this can be performed by the user in the field. Barrel lengths can also be changed, with 16″ and 9″ versions initially available.

The SIG MCX features a revolutionary recoil assembly that does not require a buffer tube, allowing for side-folding stocks. A full-length picatinny top rail allows for the mounting of lights or optics. Removable SIG SAUER iron sights come standard.

The lower receiver offers familiar AR-style controls, with an ambidextrous selector and mag release as standard. The SIG MCX upper is compatible with Mil-Spec AR-15 lowers and, with the use of a SIG MCX Stock Kit, allows consumers to fully upgrade their legacy system.

Three variants of the SIG MCX will be available to the commercial market; semi-automatic rifle, short-barrel rifle (SBR) and pistol configurations. 5.56 NATO models are shipping now, with 300BLK and 7.62x39mm models to follow shortly. A full line of conversion kits and accessories will also be available soon.

All SIG MCX models feature aluminum KeyMod handguards, ambidextrous AR-style controls, and an ambidextrous charging handle. Magazines are the proven STANAG pattern. Also unique to the SIG MCX is an upper receiver with hardened replaceable wear points, including a cam path wear insert, a feed ramp insert, a removable / replaceable deflector, and charging handle latch point inserts.

The rifle variant will feature a 16″ cold hammer-forged barrel, while the SBR will come with a 9″ barrel. Both will offer a choice of four stocks: a low profile, side-folding skeletonized stock, a telescoping stock, a tubular side folding stock, or a folding telescopic stock. The pistol variant will feature a 9″ barrel and a side-folding SBX Pistol Stabilizing Brace.

From its initial inception four years ago, the SIG MCX questioned everything about the modern rifle system, and the result is an evolution in firearms technology. The accompanying three-part web series provides a unique look into the development story, with the engineering and design teams sharing the requirements and the philosophies that led to the SIG MCX.

Part One, “Exceeding the Standard,” now available at www.sigevolution.com, looks at the origin of the SIG MCX as a response to a U.S. Department of Defense request for a short, silenced combat rifle that could engage targets out to 300 meters. Starting with a blank slate, SIG SAUER engineers went on to develop the world’s most reliable, modular, and mission adaptable rifle system. In “Exceeding the Standard,” the SIG SAUER design team explains how the SIG MCX was designed around the 300BLK cartridge and built to be silenced from the ground up. This modular design allows users to switch seamlessly from supersonic to subsonic ammunition and easily converted to 5.56 NATO or 7.62x39mm.

Coming soon, Part Two will walk viewers through the operating enhancements they can gain simply by attaching the SIG MCX upper receiver to an existing AR Mil Spec lower. Guided by experienced military and law enforcement veterans, shooters will receive a detailed breakdown of the rifle’s unmatched adaptability and unsurpassed performance, compared to traditional platforms.

Part Three will explore the ability of the SIG MCX to be configured in the field for virtually any military, law enforcement or competitive shooting scenario. Viewers will see first-hand how they can easily change stocks, handguards, calibers, and barrel lengths or add a wealth of accessories to the SIG MCX using the KeyMod rail system. SIG SAUER engineers will also provide a closer look at SIG Silencers, and the performance and reliability advantages inherent to the world’s only rifle designed first and foremost for suppressed operation.
