Horton Vortec RDX™ Features Reverse Draw Technology
Mogadore, OH. Horton Crossbow Innovations’™ unveiled its new Vortec RDX crossbow model at the 2017 ATA Show in Indianapolis, IN. Following in the footsteps of the award-winning Storm RDX™, the Vortec RDX features a lighter, smaller, reverse draw bow assembly and a new stock focused on improved handling and comfort.
“The Vortec RDX offers incredible balance, ideal weight, and optimal speed at a perfect price point,” said TenPoint CEO Rick Bednar. “Starting at only $799, this is our first reverse draw crossbow that speaks to a large portion of the crossbow market. It has the potential to be an all-time great seller.”
The Vortec’s ultra-narrow bow assembly measures a remarkable 9.125-inches axle-to-axle when cocked. Its new machined, lightweight aluminum riser is fitted with the company’s Over-the-Top™ limb pocket and Zytel® Limb Suspension System that both separates and isolates the limbs from direct contact with the riser to reduce sound and vibration. The pockets hold the bow’s 12-inch 135-pound limbs that are powered by the bow’s NEW Reaper Cam System™ and new Brownell Rhino string and cables.
Its stock assembly features the company’s NEW lightweight Fusion Reverse Draw Crossbow™ (FRX) stock. Configured with optimal comb-height and length-of-pull, the FRX stock, made from PolyOne OnForce™ LFT long-fiber thermoplastics, employs strategically placed cutouts in the butt stock to reduce weight and improve handling and balance. In addition, rubber safety wings on top of the crossbow’s fore-grip help prevent a shooter’s fore-grip fingers and thumb from moving above the flight deck while shooting the crossbow.
The Vortec’s 19.5-inch synthetic barrel is fitted with a 4-inch bullpup version of its 3 ½-lb. trigger, housed in a trigger box made of PolyOne’s lightweight OnForce™ LFT. Its weaver-style dovetail is fitted with a nylon-filament arrow retention brush that improves arrow grip and alignment and reduces noise and vibration. Like all Horton models, the trigger assembly is also equipped with a trigger safety and DFI™ (Dry-Fire-Inhibitor)
A string stop system is included in the bow package and fits into the end of the barrel to further reduce noise and vibration.
The bow and stock assemblies fit together by seating and bolting the riser into a slot in the bottom center of the barrel assembly. Combined, they create a perfectly balanced crossbow that weighs 7.6-pounds, measures only 34.25-inches long, and fires a Horton carbon arrow at 340 feet per second.
Equipped with or without the patented ACUdraw™ cocking mechanism and TenPoint 3x Pro-View 2™ Scope, the Vortec RDX is double-dip fluid imaged in Mossy Oak Break-Up® Country™ camo.
The model sells only as a complete package that includes the cocking device, scope, three carbon arrows, string stop system, and a quiver.
