Viridian Weapon-Mounted Cameras Evaluated by Police Departments

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –– FACT Duty™ Weapon-Mounted Cameras (WMC™) from Viridian Weapon Technologies are in the process of being tested, evaluated and/or implemented by more than 50 law enforcement agencies nationwide. Numerous additional national and international customers are seeking information and product samples for evaluation.

Viridian has created an entirely new category for handguns and law enforcement with the introduction of the FACT camera. The highly advanced WMC employs a 1080p full-HD digital camera with a microphone and 500 lumen tactical light. This unique solution helps overcome/address some limitations with body and dash cameras seen in recent publicized events and expressed by law enforcement professionals in high-profile cases.

Viridian’s proprietary INSTANT-ON® technology automatically activates the camera and microphone whenever the officer draws the firearm from its holster. Not only does this eliminate risk of failure to manually turn on the camera during a critical event, but it also keeps the officer from fumbling with cumbersome equipment. The WMC provides an unobstructed view of a critical use-of-force event from the end of the firearm and generates just a small fraction of the data to manage compared to other law enforcement recording options, resulting in significantly lower comparative data management costs. This makes the Viridian WMC an ideal supplement or alternative to body or dash camera programs.

Currently, police departments of various sizes and geographical locations are either testing Viridian WMCs or have actively engaged the Viridian team on getting the product in their officers’ hands. Law enforcement agencies in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia Idaho, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, Oklahoma and several other states are all working with Viridian on next steps for possible implementation of FACT Duty WMCs.

“Our FACT Duty WMCs are needed for policing today,” said Viridian President and CEO Brian Hedeen. “The significant response, engagement and follow up from so many departments and agencies shows that law enforcement personnel also see how important this new technology is to their officers and their organizations. FACT Duty WMCs provide a new, unfettered perspective for officer involved shootings and other use-of-force incidents. Our products help show what really happened.”

Designed exclusively to answer the needs of duty officers, the FACT cameras do not require any new equipment or departments to purchase additional products. The WMCs fit on existing standard issue firearms and fit seamlessly in multiple duty holster platforms. The cameras feature a battery life of over three hours to handle virtually any scenario. They also incorporate password protected data access and are easily rechargeable.
