CCRKBA Supports New School Safety Initiative

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today threw its support behind a new effort by President Donald Trump’s administration aimed at improving school safety with the launch of a dedicated website to provide information to help local school districts shape their own strategies.

The SchoolSafety.gov website is described as a “one stop shop for resources, best practices, federal programs, and grants for school safety.” President Trump met with families of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who died in the tragic Feb. 14 shooting almost two years ago.

“We think this is a step in the right direction,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “because it focuses on actual school security without proposing restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners that would not improve school safety, nor would they have prevented the tragedy in Parkland.

“We’re tired of seeing America’s honest firearms owners being made the scapegoats for horrible crimes they did not commit,” he continued. “The administration’s new effort appears to tackle the problem head-on, without all the nonsense rhetoric repeatedly espoused by the gun prohibition lobby. It has the support of Parkland families who met with the president today and thanked him for his efforts.”

According to the White House, the new SchoolSafety.gov website helps K-12 school safety community members take action to make their schools safer, by providing best practices and strategies that can be implemented in their districts.

It allows any member of the school community to tailor an action plan to their districts, providing strategies, resources and grant opportunities.

“Firearms owners are also parents, and you’ll find many teachers and school staff and administrators who are also responsible gun owners, and they are all just as interested in making schools safe as anyone else,” Gottlieb observed. “We are part of every community, and we are eager to find solutions and take action to prevent future tragedies.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.
