Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Continue Partnership with NASP with $100,000 Grant
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund is proud to award an additional $100,000 grant to the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) to support educational programming for more than 1 million students across North America and offset equipment costs for new schools joining the program.
NASP® embodies the efforts of Bass Pro Shops and its founder, noted conservationist Johnny Morris, to inspire everyone to love, enjoy and conserve the great outdoors by introducing new audiences to nature and outdoor recreation. When a school incorporates the NASP curriculum in its physical education offerings, more than 100 students on average participate in the sport at that location annually, with two-thirds of participants being first-time archers.
Through a 2017 NASP® Student Survey, educators expressed a deep appreciation for what NASP® does for theirs students: 58 percent of participants say they feel more connected to their school, and 40 percent identify the program as a motivational factor to perform better in the classroom.
“NASP® is a proven program introducing youth of all backgrounds to the exciting sport of archery,” Bass Pro Shops Senior Director of Conservation Bob Ziehmer said.
“Archery teaches many positive benefits of self-discipline, dedication, teamwork and persistence to set and accomplish goals. We are proud to partner with the National Archery in the Schools Program.”
With an unblemished 20-year safety record and more than 1,000 new schools added per year, NASP® continues to fulfill its goal of growing the sport of archery and supporting the mission of educators. This landmark Outdoor Fund grant, made possible by the generosity of Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s customers rounding up purchases in-store and online, provides outdoor gear for NASP® programming that directly impacts thousands of students nationwide.
“We are so grateful to the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund for their continued trust in us! For the thousands of NASP® students and their families who shop at nearby Bass Pro Shops or Cabela’s retail stores, or visit the trusted retailer online, now is a great time to continue to ‘round up for conservation!’” NASP® President Tommy Floyd said. “We continue to utilize 100 percent of these Outdoor Fund dollars to offset the cost of equipment kits in schools. These funds are used to help new students in 49 states to discover a lifelong pursuit in the safe and enjoyable sport of archery through NASP®.”
