Michigan House Sends Pro-Sportsmen Bills to the Senate

Yesterday, June 4, the Michigan House overwhelmingly passed two bills to help promote, protect, and ensure the continuation of sportsmen’s activities in the Great Lakes State.

HB 4401 repeals the sunset clause, leaving the Michigan pheasant release program in place for future generations.

HB 4401 passed the House by a vote of 104 to 4.HB 4285 requires the Michigan Department of Education to work with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to make a model program of firearm safety instruction available to schools as an elective course for grades 6 to 12. The course would be taught by an individual certified as a hunter safety instructor by the DNR and includes the following topics: proper usage and handling of firearms, safe cleaning and maintenance of firearms, different types of firearms, and safe hunting practices.

HB 4285 passed the House by a vote of 101 to 7.  These bills will now move to the Senate. Keep an eye on your inbox when action may be needed next.
