For a high-demand, limited opportunity resource like wild sheep, successful conservation programs require more than what we can ever take. The Wild Sheep Economy relies on added funds from auction and raffle tags, beyond the revenue from regular tag sales. This is why, alongside traditional draw tags, wildlife agencies also issue special auction and raffle tags. Without these additional funds, there would simply be fewer sheep on the mountain.

Hunting Wild Sheep in Arizona
In Arizona, funds raised from auction and raffle tags for bighorn sheep have played a crucial role in increasing hunting opportunities. Since 1984, hunting opportunities have grown from just 44 available tags to 156 tags in 2024.
As of 2025, there will only be two ways to hunt sheep in Arizona: through the state draw in the spring (with 156 tags offered in 2024) or by winning one of the three raffle tags: Mexicana Desert Bighorn, Nelsoni Desert Bighorn, or Rocky Mountain Bighorn. The average odds of drawing a tag in 2024 were just 0.03%.
