Hatsan Announces 600 FPS Arrow Rifle: The Harpoon

Bentonville, AR – Hatsan is breaking into the world of pneumatic arrow guns with its latest pre-charged pneumatic, the Harpoon. Made specifically for use with commercial crossbow bolts, the Harpoon can send a 20″ arrow downrange at 600 FPS and produce an astounding 325 ft-lbs of energy. Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80

LIPSEY’S GOES BACK TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN WITH RETRO GLOCK P80 9MM EXCLUSIVE

Baton Rouge, La.—Lipsey’s, the nation’s premier firearms distributor, has unveiled the new Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80. A historical reproduction of the original, innovative GLOCK pistol adopted by the Austrian Army in 1982.

In 1981, Gaston Glock assembled a team of engineers and designed his first firearm. The result was submitted to the Austrian Army pistol trials and won the contract in 1982. The Army then designated the first GLOCK as the Pistole 80. These guns were later known commercially as “G17s” and were only available in the US market for two years until the “Gen2” model was introduced in 1988. P80 marked GLOCKs were never imported into the United States.

After its American debut as the GLOCK 17 in 1986, the simple, yet proven, mechanics and materials have remained mainly the same. The original P80 and Gen1 G17 featured non-railed frames with no finger grooves and wrap around pebble grain texturing. Lipsey’s worked with GLOCK to recreate the Gen1 single pin frame and the original flat extractor. The P80 markings are the same font used in 1982. The classic “Tupperware” style container was also re-manufactured for this edition. Each GLOCK P80 includes a commemorative overbox and certificate of authenticity.

The new Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80 was developed to allow modern GLOCK enthusiasts to acquire a piece of the company’s unique history. The concept began with Jason Cloessner, Lipsey’s Vice President & Product Development Manager, who initiated the collaboration with GLOCK some three years ago. “I have always wanted to do a retro GLOCK pistol. GLOCK took painstaking measures to recreate the original frames and packaging to make this P80 edition as close to the original as we could get. Not only is this edition a great shooter, but it also helps tell the amazing story of how GLOCK came to be.” Read more

Daniel Defense Gearbox Giveaway for National Shooting Sports Month

NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF®, the firearm industry trade association, is pleased to announce that Daniel Defense® has agreed to sponsor a Gearbox Giveaway in support of 2020’s National Shooting Sports Month®.

After a friend introduced him to target shooting with a lesson on an AR-type rifle in 1999, Marty Daniel knew he’d found his calling. He also quickly bought his own AR that year, and that uncovered a passion for improving and perfecting America’s ubiquitous modern sporting rifle (MSR). After finding success with an innovative rail design that garnered a military contract, then a unique flattop upper and a special loop sling, Daniel produced his first MSR for the general market. The rest, as they say, is history, and today Daniel Defense manufactures dozens of MSR rifle and pistol models for a wide array of applications, as well as its one-of-a-kind DELTA 5 bolt-gun, in its sprawling facility in Black Creek, Georgia.

First-Time Gun Buyers Grow to Nearly 5 Million in 2020

NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF®, the trade association for the firearm industry, updated retail survey-based estimates and concluded that nearly 5 million Americans purchased a firearm for the very first time in 2020. NSSF surveyed firearm retailers which reported that 40 percent of sales were conducted to purchasers who have never previously owned a firearm.

NSSF tracks the background checks associated with the sale of a firearm based on the FBI’s National Instant Background Check System (NICS). NSSF-adjusted NICS checks for January through July 2020 is a record 12.1 million, which is up 71.7 percent from the 7.1 million NSSF-adjusted NICS January through July 2019. This equates to nearly 5 million first-time gun owners in the first seven months of 2020.

“This is a tectonic shift in the firearm and ammunition industry marketplace and complete transformation of today’s gun-owning community,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President of General Counsel. “These first-time buyers represent a group of people who, until now, were agnostic regarding firearm ownership. That’s rapidly changing, and these Americans are taking hold of their God-given right to keep and bear arms and protect themselves and their loved ones.” Read more

Why Women are Buying Guns

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, gun sales and interest in firearms training have surged. Surveys, studies, and wild guesses have tried to capture the reason why people, particularly women, are purchasing firearms and gun safety training. This article reviews the trends, explores the impetus for the surge, and offers quotes from women who share their stories in their own words.

First, here are the facts: FBI data showed that 2.6 million guns were purchased in March alone (an 85% increase on the same period last year), with Illinois leading with close to 500,000 purchases, followed by Texas, Kentucky, Florida, and California. Ammo.com saw about a 1,000% increase in firearm sales in Colorado, Arizona, and Texas since late February.

Media outlets were among the first to guess the cause of America’s piqued interest in guns. An article in AS stated that it was the “imminent erosion of fire, police and health services [and] fears over looting, violence and burglaries.” Another article article in Salon stated, “the fear is about the economy collapsing, leading to a rise in crime and violence [and] decades of NRA propaganda have convinced people to associate guns with safety.”

To get better insight on the rise in gun sales, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) surveyed firearm retailers about trends that they were seeing. The May 2020 survey results estimated that 40% of sales were to first-time gun owners, and that 40% of the first-time gun buyers were women.

The NSSF survey revealed that personal protection was the primary reason gun owners were buying firearms. Semiautomatic pistols were the most commonly acquired firearm by first-time buyers by a 2-to-1 margin over second-place shotguns. Modern sporting rifles, revolvers, and traditional rifles were also purchased by first-time gun buyers. Read more
