CMP Unveils New Website

GW:  When I first participated in the Civilian Marksmanship Program, it was an eye-opening delight.  Anyone level of shooter, who has not given it a try, would be well served to join the fun.  It’s always good to go with a friend, but not necessary.  It’s also not necessary to have your own firearm or ammo; firearms of the participating club can be used at no cost and the military ammo can be purchased for a nominal cost.  And, it’s not as hard as one may think to shoot those long-range targets in various positions.  It’s even fun working the pit, which is also part of the program.

After months of preparation and diligent work, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) proudly announces the unveiling of its newly enhanced website. The new site includes 300-plus pages, covering more than 40-plus CMP programs, to serve as a guide into the current offerings, commitments and future endeavors of the CMP.

With a more clean, organized appearance, the website is now just as pleasant to look at as it is to use. The site is divided into main categories, such as Sales & Services, Competitions, Air Rifle, Clubs, Training & Tech and Communications. By clicking on any of these categories, additional content under those sections will become visible, as well as suggested content.

Along with a fresh facelift, the new design has transformed www.THECMP.org into a user-friendly site, with easy-to-navigate functionality. Breadcrumbs at the top of each page allow users to easily route back and forth through each page of content, if needed.

Federal Judge Denies Motion to Reconsider D.C. Ruling

“…there (was) no longer any basis on which this court (could) conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home (was) constitutional…”

BELLEVUE, WA – The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has denied a motion by the District to reconsider its ruling in the case of Palmer v. District of Columbia, a Second Amendment Foundation case that nullified the city’s ban on carrying firearms outside of the home.

Judge Frederick J. Scullin, Jr., who issued an opinion in July striking down the total ban on carry as unconstitutional, wrote the five-page opinion denying the District’s motion. He reminded the District that “in light of Heller, McDonald and their progeny, there (was) no longer any basis on which this court (could) conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home (was) constitutional under any level of scrutiny.”

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb was happy with the ruling, asserting that the District’s motion for reconsideration was “an attempt to forestall the inevitable.” Read more

SureFire Ryder .22 Awarded Suppressor of the Year

Fountain Valley, CA – SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high performance illumination tools, suppressors and tactical products, has been awarded the first ever suppressor of the year award for the Ryder .22 from Guns & Ammo magazine.

“Suppressor use is quickly gaining wider acceptance for its inherent safety benefits and the joy it brings to people who use them,” said Eric Poole, Guns & Ammo Editor. “Combine a new lightweight suppressor design optimized for America’s favorite rimfire and you have Guns & Ammo’s top pick.”

The .22 Ryder features a unique pig-nosed baffle design that provides superior sound attenuation while still making it easy to service. Each baffle is Red Mil-Spec hard anodized to minimize finish erosion and makes carbon buildup easier to spot when cleaning. Built-in spacers also help reduce carbon buildup between the suppressor tube and baffle stack, and each baffle is numbered and indexed to make re-assembly effortless. An assembly/disassembly tool is included with every suppressor.
