Nikon Unveils New P-223 Long Range Riflescope With Dual Ballistic Compensation

Nikon has expanded its line of precision optics for MSR platform rifles by adding a new magnification to the popular P-223 riflescope.  Now available in 4-12×40 with BDC 600 reticle, the new P-223 makes any AR rifle more effective at longer ranges. The P-223 4-12×40 comes in matte finish and is built with Fully Multicoated lenses.

For the first time, one riflescope provides a choice between two different methods of bullet drop compensation. One way to compensate for bullet drop at long ranges is by using the BDC 600 reticle with open circle aiming points and hash marks from 100 to 600 yards. The BDC 600 reticle was developed specifically for the trajectory of the .223 Rem. / 5.56 NATO round with 55-grain polymer tip bullet and is most effective when used with Spot On™ Ballistic Match Technology. The other way to compensate for bullet drop is by using Nikon’s Rapid Action Turret system that allows shooters to dial in their distances and hold the BDC reticle’s horizontal crosshair directly on the target.  Distances as far as 100 to 600 yards can be dialed in, making the Rapid Action Turret system a quick and easy option for long range shooting. Anti-Dove Hunting Bill Introduced in Iowa

Just two years after establishing a dove hunting season, Iowa sportsmen again find themselves facing its threatened closure.  Animal rights and anti-hunting groups, upset over the newly created season, are pushing Iowa House File 291, sponsored by Representative Mary Mascher (D-Iowa City).  The measure would ban mourning dove hunting in the state by removing them as a game bird from state law. New Report Shows Hunters as Economic Force

Amidst attacks on hunting by the animal rights movement, a new report issued by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reveals the many benefits of hunting to America’s economy.

The report, called Hunting in America: an Economic Force for Conservation, was compiled by Southwick Associates.  It focuses on the growth of hunting in America and the sizeable impact American sportsmen have on our economy.

According to the report, the number of adult hunters in the U.S. has increased over the past five years by nine percent to 13.7 million license buyers.  In addition, the report estimates that there are another two million youth hunters across the country. Read more
