Aug. 18, 2012 Nashville, TN  –  Nationally acclaimed author and conservationist J. Wayne Fears was inducted today into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame at an induction ceremony and banquet held on the General Jackson Showboat in Nashville. Fears began his conservation work in the 1960s in Georgia where he conducted pioneering research with private land wildlife management and with management of river basin systems. For over a decade, he was the wildlife management chief of 500,000 acres owned by Gulf States Paper Corporationand managed Westervelt Lodge and hunting operations in Colorado, British Columbia and Alaska. Annual Waterfowl Festival returns to Pointe Mouillee Sept. 8-9

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Pointe Mouillee Waterfowl Festival committee will host the 65th annual Pointe Mouillee Waterfowl Festival on Sept. 8-9. Taking place at Pointe Mouillee State Game Area (PMSGA) in Brownstown Township, activities begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and run through 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and the entire family is welcome. Romney Selects Sportsman for VP

(Columbus, Ohio) –This election, avid sportsmen and women will know for sure that one of the candidates running for President and Vice President is one of their own.  This past weekend former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney made sure of that when he tapped Wisconsin Congressman, Paul Ryan (R–1, Janesville, WI) to join him in his effort to unseat President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on November 6th.

While many candidates for elected office profess to be hunters and don flannel shirts at this time of year, Ryan doesn’t dabble.  He is an avid bowhunter, a fact that has been a point of pride to Wisconsin sportsmen and women over the years.  Read more

NRA Honored with Diamond Cornerstone Award

GW:  When POMA began years ago, it was the NRA that provided funding for the hook and bullet outdoor media.  And, to this day, it has been a strong supporter of our traditional values.  Hats off to J.R. Roberts and his supporting staff.

The Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) inducted the National Rifle Association (NRA) into POMA’s elite group of Diamond Cornerstone honorees. The announcement was made during the NRA dinner at POMA’s annual business conference in Tunica, Miss. Read more

Food Plots and One Day in the Life of a Farmer

Mid-summer is a time for county fairs, cool drinks, barbeques, swimming, fishing, vacations and just plain being lazy in the shade. Ah, that would be the life, but when it comes to farming – in my case wildlife food plots – it’s business before pleasure.
