Access for Hunters Getting Tougher

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — When asked in a HunterSurvey.com poll if access to any of the places they tried to hunt in the past year had been restricted or placed off limits to them, nearly 23 percent of hunters said it had. When compared to the previous year’s results to the same question, hunters who lost land access grew by less than one percent, a statistically insignificant bump, but their numbers still reveal that nearly one in four sportsmen nationwide are potentially affected by losing access to available hunting land. SCI to Testify Before House Committee

Washington, DC – On Tuesday, June 19, 2012, Safari Club International Foundation (SCI Foundation) Chairman of Conservation & SCI Vice-President, Dr. Al Maki, will testify before the Space, Science, and Technology Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight. The hearing will cover “The Science of How Hunting Assists Species Conservation and Management.”

New Michigan Deer Hunting Rules

Hunters will have a little more territory to hunt for antlerless deer this fall as the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) opened a few more deer management units (DMUs) in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Peninsula at its regular monthly meeting Thursday in Lansing. Read more

CBD Files Yet another Frivolous Lead Lawsuit

After twice petitioning the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ban lead in traditional hunting ammunition—and after being twice previously denied—the Center for Biological Diversity is back at it.  In early June the CBD was joined by six environmental groups in suing the EPA for refusing to ban lead in traditional ammunition.  Two months earlier the EPA denied CBD’s second petition requesting regulations banning traditional ammunition. Man Sues Cabela’s and Ten Point for Crossbow Mishap

Cyril B. Korte filed a lawsuit  against Hunter’s Manufacturing Company doing business as Tenpoint Crossbow Technologies and Cabela’s Retail.   It seems as though Korte lost a portion of his thumb, because he couldn’t follow instructions and now it’s someone else’s fault.  Sure hope he doesn’t run his car into a tree, because it doesn’t have accident avoidance protections built in.  Details here…

World Record Griz Taken With CVA

Steve West, of Steve’s Outdoor Adventures TV, reported to the staff of CVA that he has taken what should be a new muzzleloader world record grizzly bear with his CVA Accura V2 muzzleloading rifle. Steve shot the bear in British Columbia on June 1st, but just reached civilization on June 9th where he was able to report the kill via an email. Read more
