Conservation officers are fully commissioned as state peace officers, with full power and authority to enforce Michigan’s criminal laws. They are a unique class of law enforcement officer, whose duties include enforcing regulations for outdoor recreational activities such as off-road vehicle use, snowmobiling, boating, hunting and fishing. CO Doug Hermanson located a pile of trash on public land and located a shipping label mixed in with the garbage. He tracked the subject down who turned out to be living in a camper. The subject was unemployed with no source of income. He was given the option of returning to the area and cleaning up the entire site instead of a ticket. He agreed and cleaned up the site.

Shiawassee County man sentenced in large deer, turkey poaching case

GW:  This guy is the poster boy for the anti hunters and earns himself a spot forever more on my poaching wall of shame.  Good job getting this cheater.

In one of the larger poaching cases in recent Michigan history, a Shiawassee County man has been sentenced under a plea agreement and will pay the State of Michigan $75,000 in restitution and have his hunting privileges revoked for the remainder of this year and the next three years. Read more

Eight Men From Colorado, Michigan And Indiana Sentenced For Wildlife Violations

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – A joint investigation by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has concluded with the convictions and sentencing of eight men for their roles in illegal hunts that took place in the King Mountain area of southern Routt County in Colorado.

Ole Thorson, 35, of Prescott Mich., entered his guilty plea on March 28, bringing the two-and-a-half year joint investigation and prosecution to an end. His brother, Travis Thorson, 40, and their father, 64-year-old Jerome Thorson, all from Prescott, had previously pleaded guilty. Read more

NRA Statement in Response to President Obama’s Gun Control Proposals

Fairfax, Va. – Throughout its history, the National Rifle Association has led efforts to promote safety and responsible gun ownership. Keeping our children and society safe remains our top priority.

The NRA will continue to focus on keeping our children safe and securing our schools, fixing our broken mental health system, and prosecuting violent criminals to the fullest extent of the law. We look forward to working with Congress on a bi-partisan basis to find real solutions to protecting America’s most valuable asset – our children.

Attacking firearms and ignoring children is not a solution to the crisis we face as a nation. Only honest, law-abiding gun owners will be affected and our children will remain vulnerable to the inevitability of more tragedy.

Poachers Popped in Warren

A couple of sneaky hunters are in big trouble if the Mayor of Warren (border city of Detroit) gets his way.  It seems as though the “hunters” arrowed a deer in the no-hunting city and scrambled off with it.  A witness provided enough information to track the scoundrels to a rented U-Haul vehicle and the evidence was obvious.  Details here…

Shiawassee County man charged with 125 violations related to poaching

GW:  Just heard about this the other day and it’s only been happening a few miles from my home.  Good job DNR!  Anti-hunters like this get a special place on my site:  Poachers!

Brian Birchmeier, 51, of Shiawassee County’s Owosso Township, was arraigned today in Shiawassee County District Court on 125 misdemeanor charges related to poaching deer and turkey in Michigan. Read more
