A Riverside County man was fined more than $20,000 and sentenced to a week in jail for poaching lobsters inside a marine protected area (MPA). This is the first resource crime conviction since the MPAs off theSouthern Californiacoast went into effect on January 1, 2012. Read more
Officials are seeking information about elk poaching in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said that a bull elk was shot and killed in Otsego County during the week of April 19 and a pregnant cow elk was shot on or around March 14 in Montmorency County.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Gaylord Operations Center at (989) 732-3541 or the state’s poaching line at (800) 292-7800.
“I would never knowingly break any game laws,” said Ted Nugent. “I’m afraid I was blindsided by this, and I sincerely apologize to everyone for this.”
Said Magistrate Judge Michael Thompson “It (the “one-strike policy) probably is not widely known, and if there is a side benefit to the agreement reached here today – since apparently newspapers are interested in Mr. Nugent and his doings – this probably will serve to alert a great many hunters to that very issue and may, in fact, prevent violations in the future and court activity for a whole slew of folks.”

New Mexico authorities have arrested three men found with a 220-pound calf in the back seat of their car. The Carlsbad Current Argus reports that the men were charged with cattle rustling and were jailed on charges of suspicion of larceny of livestock, conspiracy, lack of a bill of sale and exporting livestock. Orphaned grizzly bear cubs, rescued from Alaska, will make their debut at the Detroit Zoo. A anti-hunting poacher killed their mother and the cubs were not expected to survive the harsh Alaskan winter.
A father and son duo has lost plenty, after having killed a moose illegally. Gone are the moose, a firearm, hunting privileges, and their Cessna 140. That ought to teach ’em. The story here…
