NRA Ad Campaign Exposes the Real Michael Bloomberg

Michael Bloomberg is not having the success in burying the NRA that he expected when he announced his $50 million campaign against the Second Amendment and the formation of his gun control umbrella group, Everytown for Gun Safety.

As we reported last week, his investment in Milwaukee to defeat pro-gun Sheriff David Clarke failed in spite of the huge infusion of cash Bloomberg provided to promote Clarke’s anti-gun opponent. This defeat, on top of the recall of Colorado state senators last year, shows the inherent weakness of Bloomberg’s operation: it has no real grassroots support, just money and bluster.

To make things worse for the former mayor, NRA has launched a national effort aimed at exposing Michael Bloomberg’s anti-freedom agenda. The “Meet the Real Michael Bloomberg” advertising campaign kicked off this week with a television advertisement titled “Insult.”  “Insult” is the first in a series of ads that will highlight Bloomberg’s hypocrisy, arrogance and desire to control the lives of ordinary Americans.

“Insult”

Nobody insults your life like Michael Bloomberg. Billionaire, elitist, hypocrite. He’s tried to ban your snack foods, your soda and most of all your guns. Bloomberg said the largest county in Colorado is “as far rural as you can get. I don’t think there’s roads there.” That’s what he thinks of your state too. Tell Bloomberg to keep his politics in NY and his hands off our guns and our freedom.

Background Checks for Ammunition in California

In June, the California Assembly’s Public Safety Committee voted to pass SB 53, anti-sportsman legislation that would establish a new government-run permitting system to regulate the purchase and sale of ammunition in the state. Now, SB 53 has moved to the Assembly Floor where it could be called up for a vote at any time.

If passed, SB 53 would require virtually anyone wishing to obtain ammo used for any purpose, even hunting and target shooting, to undergo a background check and obtain approval from the State of California. SB 53 would create a state-run database of individuals approved to purchase ammunition and authorize the California Department of Justice to create an ammunition purchase permit program requiring law abiding citizens to register and pay a fee every two years, simply for acquiring common items like shotgun shells or rifle ammo. Furthermore, SB 53 would harm small businesses and limit consumer choice by banning mail-order and internet ammunition transactions in California. Read more

Clinton-Appointed Judge Upholds Maryland’s “Assault Weapon” and “Large” Magazine Bans in Ultra-Biased Opinion

This week’s ruling by the judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland reminds us why it is important to elect U.S. senators who will reject an anti-gun president’s anti-gun nominees to the federal courts, and to elect presidents who will not nominate anti-gunners in the first place.

On Tuesday, August 12, Judge Catherine C. Blake, appointed to the court by President Bill Clinton, upheld Maryland’s “assault weapon” and “large” magazine ban in the case of Kolbe v. O’Malley. Read more

Tristars Cobra Marine Tactical

For years, TriStar Arms has offered an extensive tactical and home defense line of shotguns. In 2014, TriStar has added the Cobra Marine Tactical Pump shotgun with an 18.5-inch barrel. The Cobra Marine will feature a brushed nickel finish with a synthetic stock and forearm. The entire Cobra Tactical shotgun line will now feature an 18.5” barrel and a mounted picatinny rail under the forearm. TriStar has kept its return spring feature in the Cobra Tactical firearms. Simply pull back on the forearm and release, the spring will return the forearm forward, which will close the chamber. This method makes for rapid firing in a pump shotgun. Read more

Federal Judge Rules AR-Style Rifles Not Covered by Second Amendment

U.S. Federal Judge Catherine C. Blake has released a lengthy opinion (http://www.scribd.com/doc/236628112/Baltimore-District-Court-gun-ruling) which essentially says guns regulated by Maryland last year, including the AR-15 and the AK-style rifle-along with other magazine fed, semi-automatics fall outside Second Amendment protections, calling them “dangerous and unusual arms”.

The opinion comes in a case brought by the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore, Maryland Licensed Firearms Dealers Association, Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) brought challenging the constitutionality of Maryland’s new law. Among her arguments, Judge Blake wrote that “the court was not persuaded that assault weapons are commonly possessed based on the absolute number of those weapons owned by the public. Blake went on to write that, even accepting the 8.2 million “assault weapons” in civilian hands, they represented no more than three percent of the current civilian gun stock with ownership “highly concentrated” into less than one-percent of the U.S. population.

NSSF President: Gun Industry Sales Reflect a “New Normal”

NEWTOWN, Conn. – Last year was an extraordinary one for firearm sales, a year unlike any other in the industry’s history. That’s a fact to be mindful of when comparing estimated sales through the first seven months of 2014 with those of the previous year, notes Steve Sanetti, President and CEO of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry.

Remove the extraordinary 2013 from the rear-view mirror and sales of firearms in America still show an almost uninterrupted rise over the past 10 years, according to national background check figures adjusted by NSSF to reflect market activity. For the first seven months of 2014, total firearm sales rank as the highest in the last decade, with the one big exception of 2013 (see chart). Read more
