In striking down the City of Chicago’s 2010 ordinance banning the sales of firearms within city limits, U.S. District Court Judge Edmond E. Chang in his ruling released Monday provided important recognition that the right of Americans to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment also necessitates that they have the right to acquire those firearms through lawful commerce. The National Shooting Sports Foundation broke the news last night that a federal court judge in Chicago has struck down the City’s ban on the sale of firearms within the city limits as a violation of the Second Amendment. Read more

BELLEVUE, WA – An amended complaint has been filed by the Second Amendment Foundation in its challenge of a section of New York’s “SAFE Act” relating to an arbitrary limit on the number of cartridges that may be loaded into a magazine, arguing that such a limit violates the Second Amendment. The Department of Justice is proposing a regulation that will clarify who, due to mental health reasons, is prohibited under federal law from receiving, possessing, shipping or transporting firearms. In addition to providing general guidance on the federal law, this clarification will help states determine what information may be appropriately shared with the federal background check system for firearms transfers – the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) – in order to keep guns out of the hands of individuals who may be a danger to themselves or others. Starting on Jan. 2, every single D.C. resident who has registered a firearm since 1976 must go to police headquarters to pay a $48 fee and be photographed and fingerprinted.
