CCRKBA: Dems Ramped-Up Gun Control Push

BELLEVUE, WA – Congressional Democrats “just don’t get it,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today after the House Judiciary Committee moved three gun control bills on party lines, including one to limit magazine capacity to 10 rounds.

“So far,” CCRRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb observed, “all Democrats have accomplished with their gun prohibition agenda is increase gun sales by 15 percent over the last month. This happens every time they introduce or pass new restrictions. They just don’t get it.”

He recalled how previous gun control crusades have accomplished only two things, neither of which Congressional Democrats care to admit. First, campaigns to erode the Second Amendment historically have sent increasing numbers of Americans to gun shops and sporting goods stores to buy firearms, often for the first time. Second, such efforts push people away from the Democratic Party, which no longer represents their values.

“Their attack on Second Amendment rights is really going to increase gun owner voter turnout in the 2020 elections,” Gottlieb predicted. “Remember the elections in 1994, 2000 and 2016. Those elections should serve as reminders that American gun owners are tired of being treated like second-class citizens. Read more

DTE Energy Foundation Trail opens fourth “flow trail” loop

The fourth loop of the DTE Energy Foundation Trail opened last month in southeast Michigan. The single-track, cutting-edge trail is designed for mountain bikers, but open to runners, cross-country skiers and hikers too.

Known as a “flow trail,” the surface of the trail is mechanically cut to create highly structured grades and outslopes. The loops cover varying terrain and experience levels, including technical, downhill and climbing features. View the new 360-degree trail video.

The trail consists of four loops, including the Green Lake Loop (5.2 miles), Big Kame Loop (4.75 miles), Winn Loop (8 miles) and Sugar Loop (4 miles). The newest segment is the Sugar Loop and is the most technical. Read more

Bond Arms® Wins Fastest Derringer 20 Years in a Row

Michgian DNR herbicide application underway at northern Lower Peninsula sites

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is applying herbicide treatments over the next few weeks at sites across the northern Lower Peninsula.

The spraying, which will be done from the ground as well as by helicopter, will affect only a very small percentage of state-managed land. The herbicide helps provide favorable conditions for red pine tree plantings by discouraging the growth of other plants.

Spraying already has occurred or will occur in the following counties: Benzie, Clare, Crawford, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Manistee, Missaukee, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Otsego, Roscommon and Wexford. Read more

Michigan small game hunting opens Sunday statewide

Hunters around Michigan are getting ready to get outdoors! Sunday, Sept. 15, marks the statewide start of hunting season for cottontail rabbit, snowshoe hare, ruffed grouse, fox and gray squirrel. Woodcock season, also statewide, follows less than a week later on Sept. 21.

Before hitting the forests and fields, every small game hunter needs to have a Michigan base license. A resident base license costs $11 and is valid as a small game license.

The base license allows hunters to hunt for rabbit, hare, squirrel (fox and gray), pheasant, ruffed grouse, sharp-tailed grouse, woodchuck, woodcock, quail, crow, coyote (Michigan residents only) and waterfowl during the open season for each species. Read more
