Delta Waterfowl has analyzed and interpreted wetland conditions reports from the organization’s field researchers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service pilots who conducted the annual survey of breeding ducks and habitat. Throughout many areas of the critical breeding habitat, spring pond conditions can be summarized by one word: dry.”A remarkably high number of returning ducks had to compete for a remarkably low number of wetlands,” said Dr. Frank Rohwer, Delta Waterfowl president and chief scientist. “That doesn’t mean good things for duck production.” Read more

BoatUS Delivers Over 24,000 Boaters’ Comments Urging EPA to Stop Adding More Ethanol to the Nation’s Gasoline Supply

BoatUS had asked the boating public to add their voice to a proposal to increase the amount of ethanol that must be blended into the nation’s gasoline supply for 2017. If adopted, these proposed levels will require the use of a record amount of ethanol, forcing higher-level ethanol fuel blends (including E15 or 15% ethanol) into gas pumps and at more gas stations.”A sticker on the pump mixed in with all the other labels may be the only warning for E15 gasoline,” said Podlich. Most marine engines are built to only work with up to 10% ethanol, and it is illegal to use gas containing more than 10% ethanol in any marine engine. The national boating advocacy, services and safety group has voiced its concern for the significant potential for misfueling, putting boaters at risk by using fuel that will damage their engines. MI DNR shooting ranges improve to keep pace with target shooting trends

GW:  Always a pet peeve of mine when anyone unprepared at the range had to hold up the entire show to go downrange.  Duh!  Way to go Michigan DNR!

It used to be that to check the precision of your aim when practicing at a shooting range, you had to walk downrange and look at your target. Today – there’s a Smartphone application for that.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has introduced Bullseye Camera Systems at all five of its staffed shooting ranges – at Dansville (Ingham County), Ortonville (Lapeer County), Pontiac Lake (Oakland County), Rose Lake (Clinton County) and Sharonville (Jackson County).Julee Hasbany takes aim on a pistol range at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Rose Lake shooting range in Clinton County.

“These cameras give you the ability to track your shots right from your Smartphone, tablet or laptop, with a free app downloaded to your device and a connection to the camera’s Wi-Fi signal,” said Charlie Brauer, who runs the DNR’s Ortonville Shooting Range and who had the idea to install the cameras at the end of the ranges’ long-range shooting stations.
