Umarex Introduces New Colt M45 CQBP


FORT SMITH, Ark. – Umarex USA today announced the introduction of a .177 caliber Colt M45 CQBP, a variation of the 1911 Rail Gun that’s enlisted by the U.S. Marine Corps.Like the M45 issued to Marines as well as the commercial version, the Umarex model features the flat, desert-tan-color on a metal slide. The frame is a polycarbonate substrate with black poly grips. You’ll also notice the under-barrel Picatinny rail, 3-dot sights of which the rear is adjustable for windage, flat serrated mainspring with lanyard loop, enhanced Commander-style hammer, long, solid trigger, and ambidextrous safety lock.

The M45 CQBP (Close Quarter Battle Pistol) by Umarex has a drop-free airgun magazine with a capacity of 19 rounds. Steel BBs are recommended for flawless function. They travel out of the smooth, metal barrel at a speed of 400 feet per second. The left grip plate removes for the loading of a 12 gram CO2 capsule and the mainspring slides out of the bottom of the grip frame to reveal a hex key for piercing the CO2 cartridge. Read more

MI DNR announces $100,000 in Upper Peninsula Deer Habitat Improvement Grants now available


The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced a March 1 deadline to apply for a total of $100,000 in deer habitat improvement grant funding in the Upper Peninsula.The Deer Habitat Improvement Partnership Initiative is a competitive grant program designed to enhance deer habitat on non-state-managed lands in the Upper Peninsula.

Now in its eighth year, the initiative is supported by the state’s Deer Range Improvement Program, which is funded by a portion of deer hunting license revenue.

“Due to the success of this program, and interest in 2016 grant cycle, the total amount of grant funding available has been increased by $50,000 to the $100,000 level,” said Bill Scullon, DNR field operations manager and Deer Habitat Improvement Partnership Initiative administrator. “Additionally, the maximum amount of individual grants has been raised from $10,000 to $15,000, with the minimum remaining grants at $2,000 each.” Read more

MI DNR creel clerks collecting angler information this winter

As the winter fishing season gets under way, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminds anglers that fisheries staff again will be interviewing them about their fishing trips. The DNR appreciates anglers’ cooperation in obtaining these critical data for fisheries management.

DNR creel clerks will, through brief interviews, ask anglers thow long they fished, what species they targeted, what they caught and where they live. In a few instances, they will ask to measure or weigh fish and take scale samples to gather key biological information on anglers’ catches. Read more

FWC conserves painted, indigo buntings, focuses on illegal trapping

Painted and indigo buntings breed in northern Florida, spend the winter primarily in southern Florida and can be found throughout much of the state during spring and fall migration. Poachers illegally trap these beautiful birds to sell them, often to unsuspecting members of the public. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) asks members of the public to report any instances of illegal trapping to its Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922 (FWCC) or by email or text to Tip@MyFWC.com. Look for El Niño Surprises During the Great Backyard Bird Count

New York, NY, Ithaca, NY, and Port Rowan, ON—With the El Niño weather phenomenon warming Pacific waters to temperatures matching the highest ever recorded, participants in the 2016 Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), may be in for a few surprises. The 19th annual GBBC is taking place worldwide February 12 through 15. Information gathered and reported online at birdcount.org will help scientists track changes in bird distribution, some of which may be traced to El Niño storms and unusual weather patterns.
