Federal judge: New Jersey’s ban on the AR-15 rifle is unconstitutional

A federal judge has ruled that , but the state’s cap of ten rounds passes constitutional muster. U.S. District Judge Peter Sheridan issued a 69-page opinion saying he was compelled to rule that way due to the Supreme Court’s 2022 Bruen decision. The judge has delayed his order for 30 days to allow both Second Amendment advocates and the state attorney general to file planned appeals. Both the Firearms Policy Coalition’s Brandon Combs and New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin say they’re planning appeals.

Genetics-Based Modeling Estimates Idaho’s 2023 Wolf Population Was 1,150

New method will replace the camera-based estimates done since 2019

Idaho Fish and Game researchers have developed a new genetics-based method of estimating the state’s wolf population. The method uses genetic and age information taken from every harvested wolf checked by Fish and Game. Researchers then use that genetic information to understand relatedness among the harvested wolves and a computer modeling process that uses the pattern of relatedness to estimate the total number of wolves that produced that pattern.

The estimated wolf population for summer of 2023, after the breeding season, was 1,150 wolves. That estimate is near the high-end of the annually fluctuating population because wolf litters are born in the spring, then mortality from hunting, trapping and other causes occurs throughout the fall and winter, which typically cuts the statewide population by nearly half before the next breeding cycle. Apply Now for Wyoming Preference Points

Dreaming of an epic Wyoming hunt? Apply now for preference points. Resident and nonresident hunters can build points for moose and bighorn sheep, and nonresidents can acquire elk, deer and antelope points. All applications must be submitted online through the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website.

“Preference points can help increase odds of drawing some species and hunt areas,” saidJosh Moulton, Game and Fish license section manager. “Drawing odds for all species and hunt areas are available on the Game and Fish website.”

Hunters must purchase a preference point for a species for two consecutive years to maintain their totals and avoid losing points. Residents who were unsuccessful in their 2024 moose or bighorn sheep applications were automatically awarded a point. Only one point can be acquired per species annually.

Hunters can view their preference point balance by checking the website. Totals for the 2025 hunt season will be updated in late November.
