CCRKBA Applauds Four VA Prosecutors for Refusing to Enforce Gun Ban

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is applauding the decision by at least four county prosecutors in Virginia to not enforce the ban on so-called “assault firearms” and original capacity magazines, signed into law by Democrat Gov. Abigail Spanberger

Prosecutors in Powhatan, Pulaski, Smyth and Spotsylvania counties say the ban violates the Second Amendment. Those Commonwealth attorneys are Phillip Blevins Jr. (Smyth County), Rob Cerullo (Powhatan County), Justin L. Griffin (Pulaski County), and Ryan Mehaffey (Spotsylvania County). The Washington Times is reporting that Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Kyle Kilgore “made similar remarks.”

“We are proud of these men for taking a stand against legislation which is clearly unconstitutional,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Abigail Spanberger ran for office as a moderate, but immediately after being sworn in, her far-left agenda became apparent, and she especially launched an attack on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Virginians.

“When the new law takes effect July 1, ironically just three days ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary, we are confident it will be successfully challenged in court,” he added. “The four prosecutors have reportedly reviewed the new statute, and they have all concluded that the ban is unconstitutional, and therefore unenforceable. We certainly agree.

“Nowadays,” Gottlieb observed, “it has become obvious that such bans are not being pushed by Democrats in the interest of public safety, but in a concerted effort to crush the protections guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Read more

Federal Signs Landmark Agreement with U.S. Army to Accelerate High-Performance Ammunition

Federal Ammunition today announced it has executed an agreement that allows the United States Army to utilize its patented Peak Alloy ammunition case technology for use in multiple cartridges and weapon systems. The new agreement specifies conditions necessary prior to granting Government Purpose Rights, such as the delivery of 40 million cases featuring technology.

Peak Alloy was first introduced in the commercial market in 2025 with the all new 7mm Backcountry. It is a high-strength, proprietary steel alloy casing that enables significantly higher chamber pressure — in excess of 80,000 PSI — than traditional brass for higher velocities in smaller, lighter, shorter-barreled rifles typically configured for suppressors. This case technology is also being evaluated by multiple allied European countries.

The agreement with the U.S. Army is inclusive of multiple chamberings including 50-cal and below. Read more

Hunter Shoots Charging Grizzly Bear in Defense of Life Near Cave Falls Road

The hunter immediately reported the incident to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

On the evening of May 16, a hunter shot and killed a male grizzly bear in defense of life after it charged him and his young son from a short distance away while they were hunting black bears near the Cave Falls Road on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest outside of Ashton.

The hunters were sitting on the edge of a meadow when a grizzly began crossing it and seemed to pick up their scent. The grizzly then changed direction and headed directly toward the two hunters. As the hunters attempted to alert the grizzly to their presence, it began to charge directly toward them. The man fired at the charging bear with his sidearm before quickly switching to his hunting rifle, killing it within 5 yards of where he was standing.

The man called the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office as soon as he was able and reported the incident. Idaho Fish and Game was notified and immediately responded. After conducting a thorough investigation, it was determined that the hunter acted in defense of life, as he and his son were being charged by a bear from a close distance.

Grizzly bears are protected under state and federal law, and Fish and Game reminds hunters that grizzly bears may be encountered in the Greater Yellowstone area and parts of northern Idaho. Grizzly bears also occasionally visit as far south as the Grangeville area and into the Salmon Region in central Idaho.

Michigan DNR Approves $4.035 Million in Grants for Recreational Boating Improvements and Development

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced that seven communities throughout the state will share $4.035 million in Waterways Grant-in-Aid Program funding to improve public access to recreational boating.

This year, projects in Benzie, Emmet, Mackinac, Marquette, Ottawa and Sanilac counties were approved for projects that include marina dredging, an engineering study and various site improvements. With each community’s matching funds, these projects represent a collective investment of more than $6.5 million. Read more

SAF Files Lawsuit Challenging Newly Signed Maryland Glock Ban

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and its partners have filed a lawsuit challenging Maryland’s newly signed Glock ban. The filing comes in immediate response to Gov. Wes Moore signing the bill into law today.

Gov. Moore signed into law Senate Bill 334, which states a person “…may not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, purchase, receive, or transfer a machine gun convertible pistol.” It further defines a “machine gun convertible pistol” as a firearm that contains a cruciform trigger bar. The ban goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2027.

“This Maryland law bans nearly every Glock and Glock-style handgun on the market today,” said SAF Executive Adam Kraut. “These pistols are among the most popular on the market, chosen in overwhelming numbers by peaceable citizens for lawful purposes like self-defense. Maryland has now attempted to ban these firearms because a subset of criminals illegally modifies them, using conversion parts that are themselves illegal to possess, and then commit crimes with the modified handguns. Not only is this law as foolish as banning hops and barley to prevent drunk driving, but these commonly owned arms are clearly protected by the Second Amendment, the ratification of which takes certain policy choices – including this one – off the table.”

SAF is joined in National Rifle Association v. Moore by the NRA and Firearms Policy Coalition.

“Bans like the one just signed in Maryland are the antithesis of good policy,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “This unconstitutional law does nothing more than punish peaceable gun owners in the state, and it cannot be allowed to stand. You can’t stop criminal violence by broadening the law just to make everyone a criminal. That strategy never works.” Read more

Michigan: Construction on New DNR Shooting Range in Roscommon County Underway

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will soon offer a public shooting opportunity in Roscommon County, with construction just underway on a new shooting range.

Using federal Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration funds, the DNR is building the range on Roscommon State Forest lands located at 10779 West Branch Road in St. Helen. See a map of the location. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026.

The DNR is partnering with the Ogemaw Hills Sportsmen Association, which will lease and operate the staffed shooting range.

“We are excited to be offering this new opportunity in the northern Lower Peninsula that will be easily accessible from the I-75 corridor,” said Gary Jones, DNR shooting sports manager.

Access to these lands will be restricted during construction for the safety of workers and the public. Residents of and visitors to the area are asked to be mindful of construction traffic and activity at the site. Read more

San Miguel Arcángel is engraved in 24k gold, covering the front top of the slide. Below San Miguel Arcángel are heavenly clouds. He is depicted wearing armor, with his wings spread, while thrusting his sword into Satan, the fallen angel, portrayed in flames at the bottom of the slide.
