Growing Demand Sparks EOTECH® Move, New Manufacturing Facilities and Headquarters

Plymouth, MI – Firearm Owners love EOTECH’s battle-proven optics for the military, police, and consumers. And as a testament to its popularity, the Michigan-based optics manufacturer needed more space to keep pace with increased demand and an ever-growing product line.

EOTECH’s hunt for new locations led them to Traverse City and Plymouth. Ideally situated within Michigan’s regional technology and manufacturing hub, both cities offer a talented labor pool and enhanced supplier access. “The choice to move was clear. Both Traverse City and Plymouth welcomed EOTECH with open arms,” said Dean Loebig, EOTECH Chief Technical & Operations Officer. “Offering an economic development incentive proved these cities wanted our business, plus it’s a strategic place to base our operations.”

Late Summer, EOTECH’s new manufacturing facility was up and running at 2207 Traverse Field Road in Traverse City, MI. It features a state of the art 22,000 square foot building. Fighting or Shooting – Which to Practice?

It is one of the finest pieces of cinema ever produced, I believe; it is THE SHOOTIST (1976), the Duke’s last film in which Ron Howard (Gillum) says to John Wayne (J.B. Books):

Gillum: “How did you get into so many fights and always come out on top? I nearly tied you shooting!”

Books: “Friend, there’s nobody out there shooting back at you! It isn’t always being fast…or even accurate…that counts. It’s being willing! I found out early that most men, regardless of cause or need, aren’t willing. They’ll blink an eye or draw a breath before they pull the trigger…and I won’t!”

I was still in the basic police academy when I saw this movie in an actual theater — VHS and other consumer video formats did not yet exist. When I heard this exchange in the film, it hit me just like being slapped in the face. It stuck with me and I remembered it. When consumer video did become available, I had a copy of that segment made at a shop that specialized in making VHS copies. I have used it continuously since becoming a firearms instructor in 1982. In the book THE SHOOTIST, the author goes into more detail during this exchange and if you can find a copy, I suggest you read it. If nothing else, it’s just a great novel. Read more

Michigan: two Roscommon County dams will be removed to restore natural waterways

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources-owned Little Mud Dam on Backus Creek and Denton Creek Dam on Denton Creek, both in Roscommon County, are scheduled for removal this winter and next spring.

A recent inspection of both dams found their water-control structures are in need of extensive upgrades. After evaluating the structures’ deficiencies and age, their future maintenance needs, the estimated cost of dam replacement and the surrounding wildlife habitat, the DNR has decided to remove the two dam structures and restore the waterways’ natural water flow.

“The Wildlife Division is responsible for many water-control structures similar to these dams. They can be very expensive to repair, replace and maintain over time,” said Keith Fisher, DNR wildlife biologist. “When we have an opportunity to restore habitat to its natural setting in addition to saving maintenance dollars for other projects, it is a win-win for all involved.”

Historically, both Backus Creek and Denton Creek were active waterways for beavers and were frequently obstructed by beaver dams. These natural dams created small floodings in the areas currently known as the Little Mud Lake Flooding and the Denton Creek Flooding. They provided excellent habitat for a variety of wetland wildlife species. However, as local beaver populations declined in the 1940s and 1950s, so did the wetland habitat and biodiversity.

In an attempt to re-create these natural wetland floodings, the DNR (at the time known as the Department of Conservation) installed the Denton Creek Dam in 1954 and the Little Mud Dam in 1957. The infrastructure retained shallow ponds that both wildlife and wildlife recreation enthusiasts utilized. Over time, as the beaver population recovered, natural dams began to reemerge and the need for these manmade structures diminished. Read more

Pope and Young Confirms New World Record from Chuck Adams

December 15th, 2021- Pope and Young, America’s leading bowhunting organization is excited to announce that on Monday, December 6th, 2021, a Special Panel of judges from Pope and Young convened in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to authenticate the measurement of a potential World Record Velvet Typical Sitka Blacktail Deer, shot by Chuck Adams.

Chuck’s velvet Sitka Blacktail Deer scored an amazing 109 7/8” and is now the largest bow-killed velvet typical Sitka Blacktail Deer in North America. This amazing deer was shot on Kodiak Island in Alaska, on August 12th, 2021.

Measurers present at the Special Panel were (L to R) Keith Dana of Wyoming, Bruce Capes of Utah, Chuck Adams, Brett Ritter of Wyoming, Tim Rozewski (Director of Records) of Oregon, and Drake Atwood of Idaho. With a final score of 109 7/8”, Adams’ velvet typical Sitka Blacktail Deer was confirmed as the new Pope and Young World Record. This amazing deer surpasses the previous world record velvet typical Sitka Blacktail taken by Allen Bolen in 2020, measuring 108 1/8″. Read more
