Distort the Sportsmen’s Heritage Act to Raise Money

Following in the footsteps of the nation’s most powerful anti-hunting organization, a quartet of environmental groups wasted no time firing off fundraising appeals to fight HR 4089.  The bill, also called the Sportsmen’s Heritage Act of 2012, is the most significant pro-sportsmen legislation in 15 years.  The funding requests are full of lies, mischaracterizations and distortions.

Joining the Humane Society of the United States in this cynical attempt to cash in are the Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife, The Wilderness Society and the National Parks Conservation Association.  Their fundraising appeals can be viewed by clicking on each group’s name.

EPA Denies Latest Anti-Hunting Group Petition to Ban Traditional Ammunition

Whackos Lose Court Battle over Wolf Delisting

“Personally, I’m very saddened by this ruling,” said Michael Robinson, of the Center for Biological Diversity. “We’ve already  lost hundreds of wolves before the job of recovery is anywhere complete. And the  ecosystem has taken a hit, as well as these wolves are killed.”

Anti-Fishing Groups Bypass Ongoing Lawsuit in Attempt to Ban Lead Fishing Tackle

Alexandria, VA – On November 16, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was yet again petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and two other anti-fishing groups, requesting that the agency regulate the manufacture and sale of lead fishing tackle of certain sizes and uses under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). If approved, such regulation could result in a de facto ban of lead sinkers, jigs and other popular types of fishing equipment. Read more

Private Citizen Wins Case Against Center for Biological Diversity

The Tucson-based Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) is no novice when it comes to lawsuits. The CBD has filed numerous lawsuits in the past decade against the federal government and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over perceived endangered species. From tiny fish to frogs to polar bears, if it’s alive, it’s possibly included in a CBD lawsuit.  This tactic does sometimes backfire.

Seems when the CBD decided to sue the U.S. Forest Service about cattle grazing allotments in 2002, it accused Arizona ranchers Jim and Sue Chilton of stewardship abuse. Read more

NRA Victory in Arizona Battle Over Use of Lead Ammunition

In a major legal victory, a federal judge has ruled in favor of the National Rifle Association and the federal Bureau of Land Management, throwing a lawsuit filed by an environmental group, the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), out of U.S. District Court in Phoenix, Ariz. The case is Center for Biological Diversity v. U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Safari Club International had joined the case as a “friend of the court” and assisted NRA with its successful efforts.
