NSSF Praises Passage and Signage of Sunday Hunting Law in West Virginia
NEWTOWN, CT – The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industries, is extremely pleased to note today that West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has signed SB 345 into law, expanding Sunday hunting on private land with written permission.
Earlier this month, the House of Delegates passed this measure by an overwhelming 92-5 vote, followed by Senate concurrence to technical changes to the bill it has passed in March on a 26-6 vote. State Sen. Mark Maynard was the bill sponsor. After the passage of Sunday hunting initiatives in all 11 counties where the measure was on the ballot in the 2016 election, NSSF made passage of the legislation a top priority.
“Statewide Sunday hunting is a true accomplishment for sportsmen in West Virginia, but it is equally a victory for the economy of the Mountaineer State that will see direct economic benefits as the result of hunters going afield on Sundays,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF senior vice president and general counsel. “We congratulate the legislators on this accomplishment and thank Gov. Justice for signing this measure into law. We also express our heartfelt appreciation to the citizens who contacted their delegates and senators in support of Sunday hunting in West Virginia.”
