April 2023 – Firearm & Ammunition Exports

NSSF tracks and reports monthly U.S. export units for several sporting arms, ammunition, and optics categories from the US International Trade Commission. Below are the results for April 2023 compared to April 2022.

    • April Handgun exports decreased 9.7 percent from 30,751 to 27,767 units. Within the handgun category, Pistol export units increased 4.0 percent from 25,882 to 26,910 units while exported Revolver units dropped 82.4 percent from 4,869 to 857 units.

  • April Rifle exports were down 39.8 percent from 51,995 to 31,320 units.
  • April Shotgun category posted a 20.6 percent decrease in exported units from 7,850 to 6,231.
  • April Muzzleloader category decreased 56.3 percent from 758 to 331 units exported.
  • April Other Cartridges (excluding Shotgun cartridges) category increased 37.0 percent from 43.8 million in 2022 to 60.0 million units exported in 2023.
  • April Shotgun Cartridges category increased by 67.7 percent rising to 4.4 million as compared to last year’s 2.6 million.
  • Telescopic Sights:
    • April Telescopic Sights for Rifles (HTS code 9013.10.2000, which includes military use) dropped 38.4 percent from 57,051 units to 35,149.
  • Binoculars:
    • April Prism Binoculars [not for use with infrared light] (HTS code 9005.10.0040) decreased 61.2 percent from 48,203 units to 18,715.
    • April Binoculars HTS code 9005.10.0080 [Other Binoculars, NESOI] decreased 16.5 percent from 28,297 units to 23,641.
  • Sound Suppressors:
    • April Sound Suppressors, Silencers, Mufflers and Similar Devices of Shotguns or Rifles of Heading 9303 (HTS code 9305.20.9100) decreased 66.9 percent, dropping from 1,395 to 462 units.
    • April Parts and Accessories of Shotguns or Rifles of Heading 9303 (HTS code 9305.20.9500) were down 16.9% from 86,629 to 72,011 units.
