Why should honest, law-abiding citizens cave in to the proposed gun registration scheme being proposed? Consider this: ruled in Haynes vs. U.S. (1968) that convicted felons have a Constitutional right to not register a gun, because to register a gun would be self-incrimination. Only people that aren’t criminals can be punished for not registering. If the criminals aren’t required to register, but you and I are, why bother?
Anti-gun Sen. Charles Schumer’s staff is leaking out to the press the Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn is “on the verge” of caving in and agreeing to a ban on private gun sales — and requiring virtually every American to get the government’s approval before exercising their constitutional right to become a gun owner. According to The Washington Post (2/23/13), the remaining sticking point is Coburn’s reluctance to require a 4473 for every private transaction. Were this to occur, ATF’s practice of going into gun stores and copying all the 4473’s — a practice which has been documented by GOA — would soon produce a national gun registry. Read more

John Townsend (D -Royal Oak) is poised to introduce more gun-control legislation while Republican counterparts Republican counterparts in Lansing have already proposed laws that essentially would exclude Michiganders from similar calls for more gun control from the Obama administration. NEWTOWN, Conn. — In an extended interview with the PBS Frontline program, Steve Sanetti, president and CEO of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, emphatically says that the nation’s firearms owners and firearms industry are not responsible for the criminal misuse of firearms and, consequently, should not be subjected to the severe restrictions being considered by Congress and many state legislatures. “[Firearms owners] are not the bad guys. The industry isn’t the bad guys,” said Sanetti in the interview. “Insofar as we can help the situation we want to be able to help. But that doesn’t mean piling meaningless restrictions and onerous conditions upon people who want to exercise their rights and just enjoy what they do peacefully.” Read more

Livingston County (MI) teachers have an opportunity to be professionally trained in the defensive use of handguns through a group wanting to prevent school mass killings. In the piece some reluctant teachers worry about the cost of liability insurance and the possibility of accidents and the possibility of students stealing teachers’ guns would be a recipe for disaster.
