Fire-N-The-Hole Broadheads Introduces C4 Crossbow Broadhead

The C4 Crossbow 100gr broadhead is a 3 bladed fixed head with a 1 inch cutting ring. This design accomplishes the 2 most critical attributes to a great broadhead. 1) Accuracy: The ring is a stabilizer in the flight of the broadhead. Machined true on the inside and sharpened on the leading edge, the broadhead cuts through the air like it cuts through the animal. Air passes through the center of the ring and the sharpened edge displaces the air evenly over the ring making it a stabilizer. 2) Efficiency: Broadheads are designed to put an animal down as fast and efficient as possible. The cutting ring removes 1 inch of material as it passes through the animal. This means a true hole is taken out of the animal. A 1 inch hole equals fast, massive blood loss.

The Hole: What sets this broadhead apart from other designs is the cutting of a 1 inch hole. The ring is sharpened and press on the blades 2/3 back on the head. This allows the parts of the broadhead in front of the ring to perform as any other 3 blade head. The chisel tip breaks, the blades cut. This allows the cutting ring to cut clean the damaged skin, flesh, bone, and vitals as the broadhead is sent through the animal. With the power and speed of the crossbows on the market today this makes a complete 1 inch hole through an animal. A 1 inch hole will not clot. The animals blood pressure drops to zero. The results. Fast efficient kills. Animals go down in seconds at amazingly short distances. Read more

Michigan S3DA Archer Has Success on Kansas Youth Hunt

Williamsburg, KY – Michigan S3DA archer, Alessia McGivern, is a member of Jackson County Outdoor Club and was drawn this Fall by the Kansas Department of Wildlife to participate in a whitetail deer archery hunt. Alessia and her dad, Travis, went to Eldorado, Kansas for a week of hunting at the property of Barrett Pirtle. Alessia and her dad did lots of scouting with Barrett in between hunting. On the third night of hunting, after passing up some smaller size does and bucks, Alessia finally closed the deal on a large size doe. The doe came in with another smaller doe, and she took the shot at 25 yards with her Bowtech compound bow.

Two days later, Alessia was hunting early morning when she saw a beautiful buck at around 80 yards. The buck was hesitant about coming in closer, so Alessia decided to take the long range shot and was able to harvest this buck with her Scorpyd crossbow. This is the biggest buck that Alessia has been able to harvest to date! Alessia had a great shot on both animals thanks to lots of practice and making sure her equipment was sighted in perfectly.

Alessia said, “This hunt meant a lot to me because I was able to hunt whitetail deer in a new state and I shot my biggest buck to date! I was able to spend the whole week with my dad, who is my biggest supporter and always challenges me to train hard and always do my best. I encourage other youth hunters to take advantage of any opportunities they get and enjoy all the experiences in hunting.”

Alessia and her family are very proud of her accomplishments. The McGivern family would like to send a special thanks to Barrett Pirtle and his family for making this hunt possible.

FIRE-N-The Hole Introduces SLANG BLADE 1×4 Mechanical Broadhead

Jerseyville, IL, Fire-N-the-hole Broadheads has introduced the SLANG BLADE 1×4 mechanical broadhead. The only mechanical broadhead on the market that can be used with traditional compound bows and crossbows alike.

Fire-N-The-Hole Broadheads Slang Blade 1×4 Mechanical Broadhead:

The Slang Blade 1×4 mechanical broadhead is a different design from other mechanical broadheads on the market with 3 goals in mind: 1) A firing mechanism that guarantees to open every time and 2) the largest cutting radius than any other broadhead. 3) field point accuracy.

Size: The 1×4, 4-inch cut is attained by removing the ferrule out that the traditional broadheads have, and replacing it with the weight of the cutting blades. This gives the blades four times more material than traditional blades of other broadheads. Each blade weighs 34.5 grains, which means that 70% of the weight of the broadhead is in the blades. This turns blades into small knives, which are tough enough to cut through skin, fur, flesh, bone, vital organs, etc. At 50-thousandths thick and 200-thousandths wide, this makes the 4-inch mechanical an exceptionally durable broadhead that gets the job done.

Cut: The blades are sharpened and beveled in one direction, like the blade of a lawnmower or scissors. Each blade is sharpened to the point making the broadhead cut on contact. This design gives the 1×4 the sleekest profile amongst all mechanical broadheads resulting in unmatched broadhead accuracy. The 1×4 spins through the air closed {7/8” in flight} and continues spinning through the animal at 4 inches in width for unmatched penetration for such a large broadhead. Read more

Field & Stream Rates SEVR Best Elk Broadhead of 2022

Field & Stream’s, Jace Bauserman, recently put broadheads to the test in a side-by-side match-up to rate a broadhead’s ability to take on elk. Relative newcomer, SEVR, rated as top overall choice for taking down some of North American’s toughest big game animals. “The popularity of these heads comes from their field-point-like accuracy and massive cut trauma—the swept-back blade cutting angle smashes organs and works in concert with the Lock-and-Pivot design to ensure maximum penetration,” said Bauserman. SEVR’s exclusive “locking and pivoting” blades allows broadheads to swivel around bone and eliminates penetration-robbing deflection—features especially crucial when taking on extra-large game like elk. SEVR is sold exclusively online and is currently running their annual fall sale at www.sevrbroadheads.com

Jace Bauserman is a full-time freelance outdoor writer who has been working with Field & Stream since 2017. Before going full-time freelance, Bauserman was the editor-in-chief of Bowhunting World and Archery Business magazines.

SEVR broadheads are available now and sold exclusively at sevrbroadheads.com

The Necessity of Fall Arrest Systems

Hunters love gear, gadgets and widgets. Give us a multi tool and we are fascinated for hours! An accessory that is new or different will make its way into our backpack. But truly, some are not ‘accessories’ at all… they are essential to being a safe, responsible hunter.

One such essential item is an FAS (Fall Arrest System). In fact, the National Bowhunter Education Foundation doesn’t refer to an FAS as an accessory. An FAS is an integral part of an elevated stand. Since 2004 every stand manufactured must come shipped with an FAS manufactured to industry standards. Even aftermarket vest FAS are not accessories. They are an upgraded FAS; an item which is essential to using your elevated stand.

The issue with calling an FAS an accessory is that most accessories can be left at home without causing any life-or-death consequences. Accessories may be nice-to-have but not a necessity. Multi-tools can be an extremely useful item but somewhere in the depths of your pack, you may have those same tools just as a single knife or screwdriver. But where do you have another FAS?  Many people have a favorite premium vest FAS they choose to wear but they also keep the FAS that came with their tree stand in their hunting vehicle just in case. It’s recommended that you put on your FAS at home when putting on your hunting clothing – and have a backup plan. Remember to read manufacturer’s instructions and follow them closely.

Along those same lines, the latest trend in elevated stand usage is actually not a ‘stand’ at all. They are called Hunting Saddles. You might be tempted to use a Hunting Saddle as an FAS. DON’T!  Read more
