Buck Knives Offers Deer Hunting Tips

POST FALLS, ID— Hunting for deer is one of the most popular pastimes in America. Deer hunters take many routes to fill their tags ranging from prowling the Back-40, to sharing deer camps with friends and family, to solo hunts on public lands. According to one US Fish and Wildlife Survey, more than nine million hunters spent on average of two weeks or more hunting deer. If you hunt deer and fill your tag, are you prepared?

Buck Knives offers these tips if you will be hunting deer in the days and weeks ahead and if you are thinking about purchasing a new knife for your deer hunting adventure.

*Select the best possible rifle, riflescope and binoculars, ammunition and other gear you can afford—and handle well. Be certain you can tame or manage the firearm’s recoil and shoot accurately. Adjust your binoculars to your vision, and focus on other key details to get the most from your hunting gear. If you sighted in your rifle or slug gun during warm weather, check to be certain you can see through your riflescope with the correct eye relief when you add more layers of winter clothing.

*Stay aware of wind directions. Deer can see and hear well, but when they detect human odor in the faintest wind, they are on high alert. Move and hunt with the wind in your favor and remember that winds can swirl in mountainous terrain. Read more

Knife Rights’ Ohio Knife Law Preemption Effective Today

Gilbert, Arizona – September 13, 2022 – Knife Rights’ Ohio Knife Law Preemption bill signed earlier this year by Gov. DeWine takes effect today. This is the culmination of years of Knife Rights’ efforts in Ohio.

Last year that resulted in the repeal of Ohio’s ban on manufacture and sale of switchblades. That bill also cleared up the vague, confusing, and too often abused, Ohio law regarding carry of any knife by defining a knife, razor or cutting instrument as a “deadly weapon” or “weapon” ONLY if it is used as a weapon. That change also allowed concealed carry of knives in the state.

Knife Law Preemption now makes those reforms applicable statewide. Numerous cities and towns in Ohio are no longer able to ban knives that are perfectly legal under Ohio’s statutes. It is a great feeling to be able to add another “green” state with which we are now finished to our map of accomplishments. Check it out at:KnifeRights.org/about/accomplishments

*Scout your hunting site and search for dove travel zones, such as open corridors between tall trees, or lanes from a resting area to the field. Position yourself off to one side of these dove flight lanes when you hunt.

*Select a hunting location where you can sit with the sun at your back so you have better visibility of the sky overhead without enduring sun glare and sit slightly ahead of brush or fence lines that can help break up your outline. Read more

Michigan Governor Vetoes Bipartisan Knife Rights Act

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has vetoed our bipartisan Michigan Knife Rights Act, HB 4066, that would have enacted Knife Rights’ signature Knife Law Preemption in the state.

Strongly supported by both parties, enactment of the Michigan Knife Rights Act would have protected millions of Michiganders from harassment by police for carrying simple tools they use every day for work. Whitmer’s veto is evidence that she does not care about needless interactions between Michigan residents and law enforcement.

HB 4066 would have assured that cities and towns could not criminalize the simple possession of the tools millions of Michigan residents use every day. Factory workers, farmers, food service workers, hunters, fishermen and others will remain in danger of arrest simply for crossing a line on a map to enter a city or town whose law may differ from the law in their own town or the state’s knife laws.

Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter said, “we are disappointed by Governor Whitmer’s veto of this important criminal justice reform bill. The headlines we read daily just scream for exactly this type of rational, commonsense criminal justice reform, yet she is apparently tone-deaf to the pleas.”

Eight-year-old Michigan resident Remington Wilson, who testified in favor HB 4066, said, “I’m disappointed in Governor Whitmer for not understanding that responsible knife owners only want to follow the law. I wish she had helped make knife laws more simple and clear for everyone to understand. I will continue to work with Knife Rights to help our legislators understand the problems with the current laws.”

We sincerely appreciate the efforts of HB 4006 sponsor Representative Andrew Fink in getting this bill through the legislature. Rep Fink said, “I am disappointed that the governor has left law abiding citizens vulnerable to unnecessary interference from local ordinances, but I’ll keep advocating for freedom for all Michiganians as long as I’m in office.” Read more
