Knife Rights’ Michigan Knife Rights Act Passed by House Committee

Lansing, MI — Knife Rights’ Michigan Knife Rights Act, HB 4066, was passed out of the House Local Government and Municipal Finance Committee by a vote of 8-5. HB 4066 is Knife Rights’ signature Knife Law Preemption bill for Michigan. The bill will now be eligible for a vote by the full House.

Knife Rights will let you know when it is time to contact your legislators to support HB 4066.

Knife Law Preemption is a Knife Rights criminal justice reform effort that nullifies existing ordinances and prevents new local ordinances more restrictive than state law which only serve to confuse or entrap law-abiding citizens traveling within or through the state. Preemption ensures citizens can expect consistent enforcement of state knife laws everywhere within a state. Read more

Knife Rights’ Ohio Knife Law Reform Effective Today

April 12, 2021 – Columbus, Ohio: Today, April 12, is the enactment date for SB 140, Knife Rights’ Ohio Knife Law Reform bill. Effective today Ohio knife law is changed in the following manner:

1. The ban on manufacture and sale of “switchblade,” “spring blade” and “gravity” knives is repealed. Possession and open carry has always been legal and concealed carry was legal except for the jeopardy inherent in the extreme vagueness of Ohio’s concealed “deadly weapon” law.

2. The issue of that troublesome vagueness is now cleared up because a knife, razor or cutting instrument can no longer be considered a “deadly weapon” or “weapon” when concealed unless it is used as a weapon. This allows carrying any knife concealed under state law unless it is actually used as a weapon to commit an illegal act. Read more

Texas Bill Introduced Protecting Knife Rights During Declared Disaster

Two companion bills have been introduced in the Texas Senate and House, SB 18 and HB 2249, that would restrict the powers of state and local government to infringe on constitutional rights during declared emergencies. Among others whose rights would be protected, it would shield businesses which engage in the knife trade, as well as knife owners, from interference by the government at such times.

In addition, two more bills with this Knife Rights-supported language have been filed. HB 3 is a comprehensive bill relating to the emergency powers of state and local officials specifically during a pandemic. HB 1500 is identical to HB 2249, but assigned a lower bill number so it can be referred to, and be eligible for, committee action sooner. NSSF Cancels 2021 SHOT Show

Statement from NSSF President & CEO Joe Bartozzi:

Due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases throughout the world, NSSF, the firearm industry trade association, today makes the difficult announcement that the 2021 SHOT Show has been cancelled.

NSSF has remained in constant communication with Nevada officials throughout the year in our planning for the 2021 show. While there has been a concerted effort to expand the allowable levels for large gatherings by the county and state, with positivity rates peaking during our key planning period we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 show. Sadly, these spikes are currently transpiring worldwide. Given the sheer complexities, diminishing timeline and immense logistical planning required to conduct a trade show as large as SHOT, NSSF simply could not move forward at this point with so many unknowns and variables. We truly appreciate the guidance of Nevada and Las Vegas officials in allowing us to communicate this news to our exhibitors and attendees well in advance of the show. We would also like to thank the Sands directly for their help and efforts to navigate this unprecedented situation. Read more
