“As the greatest defender of liberty and freedom in the world – and we have been for the last 236 years – why would we ever sit down with bad actors and let them decide what our policy will be going forward? [It is a] bad, bad idea. It doesn’t make sense,” said Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa at a press conference Thursday.

Transportation Safety Administration administrator John Pistole says that, effective April 25, the TSA will lift its ban on small knives in passenger cabins. Allowable knives will be limited to “retractable blades shorter than 6 centimeters (2.4 inches) and narrower than 1/2 inch at the widest point. Box cutters and razor blades, however, will still be banned. Allowing these small knives on board will align the United States with ICAO and European standards and allow screeners to focus on the highest priority threat, non-metallic explosive devices. Keychain sized knives like the Victorinox “Classic” Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman “Squirt” or “Style” multi-tools are allowed.

Despite long odds, on Tuesday night, Barack Obama managed to turn in a State of the Union performance that was filled with more theatrical pandering than the event is typically known for. Once again seeking to capitalize off tragedy by opting for emotional, rather than reasoned arguments, the President reiterated his support for increased background checks and bans on common semi-automatic firearms and their magazines, which he referred to as “weapons of war and massive ammunition magazines.”
As usual, Obama’s remarks were short on evidence that his gun control proposals would work. Of course, that evidence is sorely lacking–and who would know that better than the experts at his own Justice Department? Read more
