A Fort Worth grandmother, Jewell Turner, 74, remarked, “Never thought that when I turned my head that that young man would stick a knife to my throat.” She then remembered she had a small pistol for just such an occasion and piped up, “You back off, or I’ll blow your head off.” The would be robber did just what she said. At the same time, however, Cleveland, Ohio, a growing, vibrant city with good hotels, restaurants and a vibrant social life, effectively told the shooting industry they weren’t interested in their dollars. The City Council passed sweeping gun-control legislation, ranging from redundancies of state laws to local regulations described as a “revenue stream with new fines” that included requirements to report private gun sales to police, restrictions of firearms by anyone under 18 years of age without adult supervision and requirements to report lost or stolen firearms.
“In light of these developments,” blogged the NSSF’s Chris Dolnack yesterday, “NSSF can no longer consider the City of Cleveland a candidate for hosting an event as important to our business as the Industry Summit. Events such as the Summit require a significant investment of our and our members’ dollars and time for the betterment of our industry. NSSF cannot permit that investment to benefit a city whose current leaders will not in turn support our 2nd Amendment rights and the continued success of the firearms industry. “
BELLEVUE, WA — A defensive shooting incident in Chicago involving a legally-armed Uber driver who intervened when a gunman opened fire on a crowd in Logan Square could not have happened without a concealed carry law that was passed by the Illinois Legislature because of a federal lawsuit brought by the Second Amendment Foundation.
No charges will be filed against the unidentified Uber driver, who used his licensed handgun to stop the alleged shooter, a 22-year-old man who now faces criminal prosecution. SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb noted that, had this armed citizen not been present, this incident could have turned out much differently, and much worse. Read more
How does your average, everyday mom go from teaching college level critical-thinking classes to teaching firearms classes? Beth Alcazar, USCCA writer, instructor, and author of the “Pacifiers & Peacemakers” column, will share her compelling story at the upcoming USCCA Concealed Carry Expo, May 8-10, 2015. This first-ever event, located at the Washington County Fair Park in West Bend, Wis., plans to bring together all aspects of the concealed-carry industry, including the fast-growing women’s segment.
“The firearms industry is no longer just a ‘boy’s club,'” Beth states. “And moms with guns are becoming the new norm, with women accounting for 37 percent of new shooting participants.”
Appropriate for the Mother’s-Day-weekend event, and in complete opposition to the anti-gun groups that degrade and demean women, Alcazar plans to share a presentation titled, “Concealed Carry for Moms: Breaking the Mold.” Accompanied by statistics, trends and real-world examples, she’ll share what spurs her passion to pursue the concealed-carry lifestyle and be a responsibly armed woman… and why other moms can – and should – follow the same course. Alcazar will also be teaching a WI Concealed Carry Permit Course at the expo FREE to mothers on Mother’s Day. Read more
Over the weekend, a news item used unidentified sources to report a “secret deal” struck the NRA and the ATF. The Outdoor Wire Digital Network contacted the NRA-ILA to investigate further. Yesterday, we were told unequivocally by NRA-ILA Director of Public Affairs Jennifer Baker that the report was a “complete and total fabrication” with absolutely “no basis in fact.”

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation announced yesterday that it has taken on funding the case of a retired Glendale, Arizona Navy veteran whose gun collection was seized by authorities because of an on-going dispute with a neighbor who obtained a protection order.
The case of 56-year-old Rick Bailey has made headlines in the Southwest and across the Internet. Bailey had complained to the City of Glendale about the neighbor’s habit of parking dump trucks used in his landscaping company. The dispute unfolded over several months until Bailey called police over concerns of toxic chemical odors apparently coming from the neighbor’s property. The neighbor apparently alleged that Bailey had threatened him, and the following day, he obtained a harassment order against Bailey. Police showed up and took Bailey’s gun collection, and he wants his property back. Read more
