One of the most important responsibilities within the mission of the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is to train and educate citizens across the United States. Since 1996, the CMP has consistently implemented new ways of fulfilling this purpose through additional programs, competitions and publications.

In 2021, the CMP has introduced a more modern approach to broadcasting marksmanship culture and opportunities to an expansive audience across the country by creating its own CMP Podcast – a series of digital interviews and conversations for listeners to enjoy.

Podcast episodes will cover a variety of topics, including in-depth looks into CMP departments and upcoming competitions, along with insight directly from the voices of professionals within the marksmanship industry. Read more

Each component of the SIG SAUER NGSW system offers significant advancements in battlefield weapons performance beginning with the SIG SAUER 6.8×51 Hybrid Ammunition – a lightweight cartridge designed to handle higher pressures resulting in increased velocity and terminal performance. The SIG SAUER Lightweight Belt-Fed Machine Gun (NGSW-AR) doubles the effective range and is 40% lighter than the current M249 while maintaining the preferred belt-fed operation, with reduced felt recoil to increased accuracy. The SIG SAUER Rifle (NGSW-R) is built on the foundation of the battle tested MCX platform with the added firepower of the 6.8×51 round; both the NGSW-AR and NGSW-R feature familiar AR-style ambidextrous ergonomics designed for a seamless transition from the legacy weapons to the SIG NGSW system. The final component of the system is the SIG SAUER Next Generation Suppressors for reduced sound signature.

To generate fresh opportunities for rifle and pistol competitors in the new year, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has created a spring event loaded with matches and courses never seen before on CMP’s ranges.

The CMP Talladega Spring Classic is set to be held March 16-21, 2021, at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama. Appealing to both experienced enthusiasts and beginners, the lineup of matches at the CMP Talladega Spring Classic includes a mix of traditional vintage and modern military rifle matches, pistol competitions and educational courses.

Firing for the first time will be a Pistol 2700 Match, Mid-Range 3×600 Rifle Match, Long Range Rifle Clinic and a Benchrest Garand Match, among other competitive events. A Pistol Marksmanship 101 Course and a Team CMP 600-Yard Clinic will allow guests the opportunity to learn firearm basics from certified instructors, who happen to be some of the leading marksmen in the field today.
