Magnum Research Releases Limited Edition Steampunk Desert Eagle

Pillager, MN: Magnum Research, in collaboration with Dark Alliance and Koted Arms, is proud to announce the release of the Steampunk Desert Eagle, the ultimate incarnation of custom Desert Eagle craftwork. Only 20 such custom pistols will ever be produced, and each is completely unique in its own right.

The Steampunk Desert Eagle is a one-of-a-kind heirloom that is intricately engraved with gears and machinery reflecting a Steampunk motif. From the slide, to the frame, and across the grips, the artists at Dark Alliance and Koted Arms used the Desert Eagle as a canvas to engrave their vision of a steampunk universe. Each gun was then coated with a Cerakote Copper and Black finish, carefully chosen to reflect an antique character and dystopian 19th Century feel. The pistols are hand taped during finishing, so no two are exactly alike.

Each pistol is chambered in .50 AE, and comes with one seven round magazine. A certificate of authenticity is included, verifying that the gun is one of only 20 to ever be produced. All 20 Steampunk Desert Eagles will be offered for sale directly to the customer through the Magnum Research Custom Site. When they go live, they will go very, very fast. Magnum Research Introduces New L6 Desert Eagle with Muzzle Brake

Last fall I ran into a fellow toting a rifle in .338 Lapua. It had the profile and accoutrements for service in a sniper’s nest, including a scope with power enough for astronomy. He seemed over- equipped. Was he?

Hunting is more fun with a favorite rifle. If his is a space gun that costs more than a new kitchen and hurls bullets with 12 times the muzzle energy of a .45 ACP (adaptive carbine platform), bully for him. Send five times the thump of a .30-30 to 200 yards? That’s okay too. I’m not the mule packing his iron up the hill.

A couple of miles across that prairie, I’d just shot a buck at 23 paces. My lightweight Ruger in 6.5 Creedmoor had excessive reach, its Trijicon sight at 3x, triple the power I’d needed. Read more

CMP Announces Return of Advanced Maintenance Rifle Classes in 2024

After a long hiatus, the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) Advanced Maintenance Clinics will be returning in 2024. The course is for those firearm enthusiasts interested in assembling his or her own vintage rifle with the help of hands-on, knowledgeable instructors.

The Advanced Maintenance Class (AMC) is a three-day course in Anniston, Ala. Designed for those who wish to take their passion for the timeless M1 Garand to the next level, the AMC offers students a unique opportunity to receive unparalleled training from our CMP Custom Shop staff. Topics such as head space, barrel installation, component purpose/function, general rifle assembly, rifle/component maintenance and various accuracy techniques will be covered using instructional videos and detailed visual presentations.

In conjunction with the classroom sessions, students will receive active instruction and individualized assistance from Custom Shop staff. Additionally, students will receive an exclusive visit to the CMP South Store and Talladega Marksmanship Park for a chance to view the grounds and fire their personally crafted rifles from class.
