Washington, DC – Governor Rick Snyder (Mich.) signed Senate Bills 288 and 289 into law today at a ceremony attended by many Safari Club International members. The new laws 1) state that the Natural Resources Commission has the authority to designate game species and 2) protect the right to hunt and fish. SCI’s Michigan Chapters, along with other sporting organizations in Michigan, advocated for final passage of both of these bills during this legislative session. Read more

BILL TO BE HEARD BY COMMITTEE WEDNESDAY . . . Assembly Bill 711 is scheduled to be heard by the California Assembly Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, May 8.
NSSF is urging all retailers, sportsmen and gun owners throughout the state to call and email members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee and your Assembly member asking them to oppose this anti-hunting bill.
If passed, this bill would extend the now-limited condor-range ban on traditional lead ammunition to the entire state. The ban could go into effect as soon as the 2016 hunting season.
This bill will have detrimental effects on the California economy, costing the state over 3,000 jobs, a loss of $320 million in economic impact and a decrease in tax revenue of more than $25 million.

The bills now head to Governor Snyder’s desk, and the anti-hunters are trying to get him to veto the legislation.
