Governor signs bill to streamline hunting, fishing options and boost investment in natural resources
LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today signed legislation that authorizes important changes to Michigan’s hunting and fishing license structure, simplifying the license options for outdoor enthusiasts – reducing the number of license types by more than 80 percent – and providing vital additional revenue for wildlife and fisheries habitat, conservation, outreach work and law enforcement. Under the new structure, which takes effect March 1, 2014, anglers will no longer need to choose between Restricted and All-Species licenses, and hunters will now purchase a new “base” license. Antler point restriction updates for Sept. 21- 22 deer hunters
After a critical review of the Wildlife Conservation Order, the Department of Natural Resources has determined that ALL qualified participants in the upcoming Sept. 21-22 Liberty Hunt are exempt from antler point restrictions (APRs) in the following areas:
- Zone 1
- The new 12-county APR area – Emmet, Antrim, Charlevoix, Kalkaska, Grand Traverse, Benzie, Manistee, Mason, Lake, Osceola, Missaukee and Wexford counties

Perry Youth Hunt Extravaganza September 21st and 22nd

The future of hunting can be seen next weekend, September 21-22, 2013, when youth 16 years of age and younger may participate in Michigan’s first Liberty Hunt. The newly named hunt includes veterans with 100-percent disability and offers this firearms deer hunt on all lands of Michigan.
To celebrate the right to hunt, The Perry Sons of Amvets, Post 4064, 601 N. Main St, Perry, will host the 10th annual Perry Youth Hunt Extravaganza, whereby youngsters have the opportunity to win valuable prizes simply by going hunting. Unlike other deer hunting contests, no kill is required to qualify for prizes. However, youngsters must be licensed to hunt deer and show proof. Read more
Public Comment Period Extended for National Delisting of Gray Wolf
MISSOULA, Mont.–The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) extended the public comment period until October 28 on two proposed rules to remove the gray wolf from the List of Threatened and Endangered species. Read more
Youth and disabled hunters: the Liberty Hunt is next weekend!
The Liberty Hunt – a firearm deer season for youth 16 years of age or younger and veterans with 100% disability- takes place on all lands in Michigan Sept. 21 – 22. During this two-day hunt, a firearm or combination license may be used for antlered or antlerless deer. The bag limit for this season is one deer.
